COLCHESTER, VT. -- Senior co-captain Brad Baldelli
(Northboro, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal and
assisted two others while first-year Andrew Peabody
(Marblehead, Mass.) made 18 saves to earn his second
shutout of the season as the Babson College ice hockey team blanked
host Saint Michael's College, 3-0, in an ECAC East matchup on
Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Beavers improved to 5-7-1 overall and 4-5-0 in
the conference, while the Purple Knights fell to 5-7-1 overall and
5-6-0 in ECAC East play.
Baldelli put Babson in front early, netting his sixth goal of
the season off feeds from juniors Chris Wood (Medford,
Mass.) and Jason Schneider (Littleton,
Mass.) at 3:48 of the first. It then remained a one-goal
affair until midway through the third, when Baldelli and junior
Shane Farrell (West Warwick, R.I.) set up senior
Pat McLaughlin (Berlin, Mass.) at 10:46. It was
McLaughlin's second goal of the season with coming this weekend.
The Beavers capped off the 3-0 victory in the closing moments of
the contest, as sophomore Terry Woods (Duxbury,
Mass.) netted his third goal of the season off assists
from Baldelli and Farrell with just 17 seconds remaining.
Peabody was perfect in net for Babson, stopping seven shots in
the first, six in the second, and five in the third for his 18
saves. He was nearly matched by Saint Michael's goalie Tyler
Bilton, who kept his team in the game with 36 saves. The Beavers
outshot the Purple Knights by a 39-18 margin.
