Box Score
BABSON PARK, Mass. -
Senior tri-captain Anita Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) led all players with five goals and one assist for six points as the seventh-ranked Babson College Beavers defeating the visiting New England College Pilgrims, 18-2, in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest at MacDowell Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Babson remained unbeaten at 6-0, while NEC fell to 2-3 with the loss.
Pilgrims' Junior Emily Tanguay (Manchester, N.H.) scored just over a minute into the game to give NEC a 1-0 lead, but the Beavers would take over from there as they rattled off 11 consecutive goals over the next 24 minutes to go up 11-1. Martignetti scored three times during that span, while sophomore Kaitlyn Pettengill (Hopkinton, Mass.), sophomore Anna Collins (Winchester, Mass.), and junior Jess Parker (Cataumet, Mass.) each struck twice.
Junior Jodie Dresser (Keene, N.H.) netted NEC's second goal just before the half to cut the Pilgrim's deficit to 11-2 at the break, but the Beavers' defense would hold the visitors scoreless for the remainder of the contest. Meanwhile, Martignetti and junior Lindsay Bucci (Medford, Mass.) each scored twice and senior Melissa Martin (Andover, Mass.) added one goal and one assist in the second half as Babson coasted to the 18-2 win.
Bucci finished with three goals and two assists for five points in the victory, while Pettengill and Parker each contributed two scores and one helper. In addition to her game-high scoring output, Martignetti added four ground balls and four draw controls, while first-year Ellen McCurdy (Weston, Mass.) chipped in with five draws. First-year goalie Sarah Macary (Woodbury, Conn.) finished with six saves in 42 minutes in net for the Beavers before giving way to fellow rookie Rebecca Foley (New City, N.Y.), who stopped the only shot she faced in the final 18 minutes.
Despite suffering the loss, first-year goalie Alie DiRico (Limerick, Pa.) was outstanding in net for NEC, finishing with 16 saves, including stops on eight of Babson's 12 free position attempts. The rookie keeper also added two ground balls and matched a team-high with two caused turnovers.
