BABSON PARK, Mass. - UMass-Dartmouth junior goalie Jon
Dryjowicz-Burek (Ludlow, Mass.) made 52 saves and Babson College
senior netminder Skylar Nipps (Orlando, Fla.)
finished with 25 stops as the Corsairs and Beavers played to a 1-1
overtime tie in a non-conference men's ice hockey matchup at the
Babson Skating Center on Tuesday night. It was the first deadlock
of the season for both teams, as UMass-Dartmouth moves to 4-1-1 and
Babson's record now stands at 0-2-1.
Babson jumped in front late in the first period, as junior
defenseman Casey Fazekas (Montreal, Quebec) scored
a powerplay goal off assists from senior JT
Balben (Wayland, Mass.) and first-year Cody
Carlson (Peterborough, N.H.) at 18:23. The Beavers would
then mount an impressive 24-6 shot advantage in the second session,
but Dryjowicz-Burek kept the Corsairs in the game with a perfect
period in net. Meanwhile, UMass-Dartmouth capitalized on one of
their opportunities as junior Matt Berard (Calgary, Alberta) scored
off feeds from first-years Shawn Manning (Stoughton, Mass.) and
Craig Cardone (Westford, Mass.) at 6:56 to even the contest at
1-1.
UMass-Dartmouth went on the offensive in the third period,
outshooting the hosts, 12-7. However, Nipps denied all 12 bids to
help send the game into overtime. Both squads would mount four
shots in the five-minute extra session, but both goaltenders held
strong as the contest ended in a 1-1 tie.
