Salem State College scored four unanswered goals in the first two periods, including a pair by Jeff Tellier, on its way to a stunning 4-1 upset of 14th-ranked Babson College in an ECAC East ice hockey matchup on Saturday afternoon.
With the loss, the Beavers fell to 11-4-2 overall and 7-3-2 in the conference. The Vikings upped their record to 11-6-0 overall and 6-5-0 in the East.
Tellier put Salem State on the board with his first of the game at 15:38 of the first, and later made it 2-0 when he scored again at 4:34 of the second. The Vikings would add two more scores in the final eight minutes of the session, as Mike Genovese scored at 12:12 and Chris MacInnis struck at 15:21.
Babson would get one goal back when sophomore Shane Farrell scored off a feed from junior Pat McLaughlin at 7;32 of the third, but that would be the only blemish for goalie Ryan Hatch, who finished with 29 saves in the victory.
Junior Skylar Nipps made 23 saves in 40 minutes of action for Babson, while sophomore Travis Clarke stopped six shots in the final period.
