Springfield Ousts Men's Lacrosse In Pilgrim League Semifinals, 17-6

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Springfield College sophomore attack Jake Beebe (Sudbury, Mass.) totaled four goals and three assists for a game-high seven points as the second-seeded Pride rolled past third-seeded Babson College, 17-6, this afternoon in the semifinals of the Pilgrim Lacrosse League Tournament at Benedum Field.

SC (8-8) advances to face the winner of No. 1 Western New England College (WNEC) versus No. 4 Lasell College. Babson sees its 2007 campaign come to a close with a record of 7-7.

SC never trialed in today's semifinal, jumping out to a 6-1 lead in the first 15 minutes of play. The Pride eventually led 6-2 at the half, 14-3 after three quarters, and 17-6 for the final total. Junior midfielder Tyler Montgomery (Brunswick, Me.) equaled Beebe's game-high of four goals. Junior midfielder Greg Welch (Peabody, Mass.) and sophomore midfielder Chris Jez (Somers, Conn.) each added two scores, as Jez also racked up an assist. Beebe and freshman attack Kyle Gable (Somers, Conn.) led the Pride in assists with three apiece.

Babson sophomore midfielder Matt Harrington (Hanover, Mass.) paced the Beavers on offense with two goals, while freshman attack Luke Biggins (Sudbury, Mass.) chipped in with one goal and one assist while winning 15 of 23 faceoffs. Sophomore goalkeeper Max Owen (Hamilton, N.J.) went the distance in net, making 19 saves in defeat.

For SC, senior netminder Kyle Cloutier (South Hadley, Mass.) improved his record to 6-8 overall on the season in stopping 14 Beaver shots, half of which came in the second quarter.
