Senior Adam Cherry (Westfield, MA) scored three goals and had an assist as No. 3 Western New England College posted an 11-1 victory over visiting Babson College Wednesday night (April 25) in a Pilgrim League contest.
The Golden Bears remained undefeated with a 13-0 record, which includes
a 7-0 mark in the league. Babson fell to 6-6 overall and 4-3 in the Pilgrim League.
Babson took a 1-0 lead on a goal by sophomore Matt Harrington (Hanover,
MA) at the 5:51 mark of the opening period. However, it was all Western New England College from that point on, as the Golden Bears came back to take a 2-1 lead after the first quarter and 5-1 at halftime. WNEC then broke the game open by scoring five times in the third stanza.
Junior Bryan Cofrin (Londonderry, NH) added two goals and an assist
while classmate Tim Heffernan (Glastonbury, CT) also tallied a pair of
goals. Junior Jon Hayes (Waltham, MA) contributed a goal and two
assists. Junior goalie Chris Body (Newtown, CT) finished with seven saves.
Sophomore goalie Max Owen (Hamilton, NJ) stopped 11 shots in three
quarters of action for the Beavers, who wrap up their regular season play with a home game against Norwich at 6 p.m. on Saturday night.
