BABSON PARK, Mass. - The Babson College women's lacrosse team used a balanced attack to defeat visiting Endicott College, 18-13, in a non-conference tilt at MacDowell Field on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Beavers upped their season mark to 4-2, while the Gulls dipped to 3-2.
Sophomore Alex Pearce (Underhill, Vt.) scored just 13 seconds into the game to give Endicott an early 1-0 advantage, but sophomore Jess Parker (Cataumet, Mass.) scored two straight goals to ignite a 4-0 run that put Babson on top, 4-1. The Beavers would continue to hold the lead for the rest of the back-and-forth half, eventually taking an 8-5 edge into the break behind two late goals by first-year Anna Collins (Winchester, Mass.).
Babson took its largest lead of the game at 11-5 when first-year Kaitlyn Pettengill (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored 46 seconds into the second half, and the Beavers matched the six-goal margin four minutes later when sophomore Lindsay Bucci (Medford, Mass.) scored to make it 13-7. Endicott eventually withered its deficit down to just three when first-year Valerie Feldman (Albany, N.Y.) scored on a free position to cut it to 15-12 with 7:23 remaining, but junior Anita Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) and Bucci combined to score three of the final four goals to lead Babson to the 18-13 win.
Bucci posted her sixth consecutive hat trick for the Beavers, while Martignetti, Parker, and Collins each joined her with three goals. Pettengill added two goals and three assists for a game-high five points, and sophomore Jackie Godfrey (Franklin, Mass.) tossed in two goals and one helper. Senior tri-captain Jennie Williams (Andover, Mass.) went the distance in net for Babson, finishing another strong game with 10 saves.
Pearce and Feldman paced Endicott with three goals apiece, while sophomores Shiori Tachiwana (Kanagawa, Japan) and Sara Gunter (Kennebunk, Maine) each scored twice in defeat. Senior goalie Erin Curry (Hampstead, N.H.) turned away 10 shots while playing all 60 minutes in net.
