Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - The ninth-ranked Babson College men's ice hockey team once again used a balanced attack to thwart a conference foe on Saturday, as the Beavers completed a weekend road sweep with a 5-1 victory over host Wesleyan University in an ECAC East/NESCAC contest. With the victory, Babson remained alone atop the ECAC East standings with a record of 6-0-1 overall and 4-0-0 in league play. The Cardinals fell to 2-4-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the NESCAC.

Sophomore Chris Wood scored his second goal in as many days to give Babson a 1-0 lead at 14:27 of the first, and classmate Shane Farrell made it 2-0 with the eventual game-winner on the powerplay at 7:14 of the second. Senior co-captain John Geverd then tacked on his fifth of the year at 12:38 of the second, giving the Beavers a healthy 3-0 cushion heading into the final period of play.

Farrell continued the route with his second of the day and third of the season at 5:17 of the third, and junior Matt Harrington followed up his two-goal performnace against Trinity on Friday with his third score of the year at 16:15. J.J. Evans finally put Wesleyan on the board with his second of the season with 2:51 left to play, but that would be all the Cardinals would muster against junior goalie Skylar Nipps, who finished with 18 saves in the 5-1 Babson victory.

Overall, four different players scored goals and five others notched assists for Babson, highlighted by two goals from Farrell and two helpers from sophomore Jason Schneider. For the weekend, 13 different players recorded points for the Beavers' balanced attack, including seven difference goal scorers.

Babson will remain on the road next Wednesday, when the Beavers take on ECAC East travel partner UMass-Boston at 7 p.m. Wesleyan, which received 34 saves from goaltender Matt Palladino, will host UMass-Dartmouth in a non-conference tilt on Friday at 7 p.m.
