Six different players scored goals for Babson as the ninth-ranked Beavers crushed host Trinity College, 7-1, in an ECAC East/NESCAC men's ice hockey matchup on Friday night. With the win, Babson remained unbeaten at 5-0-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the ECAC East, while the Bantams dropped to 2-2-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the NESCAC.
The Beavers opened the scoring with back-to-back goals just 39 seconds apart late in the first, as senior co-captain John Geverd netted his fourth of the year at 14:01 and junior Matt Harrington tallied his first at 14:40. Junior Pat McLaughlin later made it 3-0 with his third of the year at 2:14 of the second before Trinity finally got on the board with a John Carter goal just under six minutes later.
That would prove to be the only blemish for the Beavers on the night, as they rattled off four unanswered goals, beginning with sophomore Shane Farrell's first of the year at 18:46 of the second. Senior Mike Venit added his second of the season at 5:52 of the third, junior JT Balben tacked on his second at 11:37, and Harrington netted his second of the game to finish off the scoring at 18:02.
Balben and sophomores Casey Fazekas and Chris Wood each finished with two assists apiece in the victory, while McLaughlin and Venit both recorded one goal and one assist. Junior goalie Skylar Nipps continued his stellar play in net for the Beavers, making 28 saves to earn his five victory of the year.
Wesley Vesprini went the distance in net for Trinity, stopping 33 shots. Babson outshot the Bantams, 40-29, while converting four of 11 powerplay opportunities.
