MARLBOROUGH, Mass.— After helping extend the team's shutout streak to three games, Babson College junior Lauren Golden (New Albany, Ohio) was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Defensive Athlete of the Week Monday morning.

Golden keyed a staunch defensive effort as No. 6 Babson recorded back-to-back shutouts over the University of New England and Wellesley to open NEWMAC play. The junior back and the Beavers' back line gave up just two shots to the Nor'easters in Tuesday's 5-0 win and held the Blue without a shot or a penalty corner in Saturday's 6-0 victory. 

A three-year veteran and two-year starter, Golden has helped the Babson defense to a league-leading five shutouts, allowing just eight goals in seven games. She also scored her first two goals of the season in the win over Wellesley.

Babson (5-2, 1-0 NEWMAC) wraps up a three-game homestand on Saturday when it hosts Mount Holyoke at 12 p.m. at MacDowell Field.
