Match Recap: #7 Women's Tennis |

No. 7 Women’s Tennis Rolls Past No. 14 Washington & Lee for 10th Straight Win, 7-0

BABSON PARK, Mass. — Senior Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador), sophomores Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) and Mia Sorrentino (Miami, Fla.) and first-year Elizabeth Shu (Sugar Land, Texas) were all winners at both singles and doubles as No. 7 Babson College rolled past No. 14 Washington & Lee University, 7-0, in a battle of nationally-ranked women's tennis teams Thursday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Courts.

With the victory, Babson extended its winning streak to 10 matches and improved to 14-3 overall while Washington & Lee had a five-match winning streak snapped and dropped to 16-2 on the season.

After taking the doubles point with wins in two out of the encounters, the Beavers swept the singles, including wins by sophomore Sarai Dorismond (Carlsbad, Calif.) and first-year Jolie Wang (Los Altos Hills, Calif.).

The Beavers started the scoring when Matia Cristiani and Sorrentino posted a 6-3 victory at number one doubles over seniors Lauren Long (Carmel, Ind.) and Grace Lorenz (Oklahoma City, Okla.). The Generals registered their only triumph of the day when sophomore Allie Murrell (Florence, S.C.) and junior Haley Stoltz (Raleigh, N.C.) won at number three, 6-3, but the Green and White clinched the doubles point when Shu and Alessandra Cristiani took the match at number two, 6-4.

Sorrentino was the first to win her singles match at number six, 6-0, 6-2, and Matia Cristiani followed with a 6-1, 7-5 triumph over Long at number one. Dorismond closed out the Babson team victory with a 6-4, 6-2 win at number three.

Wang kept the momentum going for the Green and White with a 7-5, 6-3 win at number five. Babson needed wins in third-set super-tiebreakers to claim the final two decisions as Shu came back from down a set to win 3-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) at number two and Alessandra Cristiani captured a 7-6, 1-6, 1-0 (10-7) verdict at number four.

The Beavers wrap up their regular season with a showdown on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Babson Tennis Courts against No. 10 MIT in a battle for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular season title. W&L concludes its regular season on Friday at No. 13 Tufts in Medford.
