Softball Falls to Dominican, Responds with Win over Wesleyan on Opening Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla.—Junior Emily Walsh (Flemington, N.J.) finished the day with five hits and six different players drove in a run as Babson College split a pair of games to open the 2026 season at Legends Way Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Beavers suffered a 9-1 five-inning loss to Dominican (Ill.) University in their opener before bouncing back with a 9-5 victory over Wesleyan University in game two.

Babson 9, Wesleyan 5
Walsh was 4-for-5 with a double, three RBI and three runs scored, junior Lexi Sealey (Pleasant Hill, Calif.) went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI and sophomore Belle DiCampello (Pottstown, Pa.) finished with two hits, including a triple, and knocked in a pair of runs to pace the Beavers' 15-hit attack. Senior Charlotte Raymond (Wrentham, Mass.) and sophomore Samantha Skivo (Conshohocken, Pa.) also reached base twice in support of first-year Anna Topel (Oak Park, Ill.), who gave up three earned runs over four innings to pick up the win in her collegiate debut.

Senior Molly Lennon (Litchfield, Conn.) smacked a two-run homer to dead center to give Wesleyan (5-3) a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third before Babson responded with a four-run fourth to take the lead for good. Sophomore Maddy DeLong (Cranford, N.J.) tied the game with a single to left center, Walsh followed with a two-run single to center and then scored one batter later when DiCampello tripled to right center to make it 5-2.

The Cardinals cut their deficit to 5-4 on a two-run base hit by sophomore Katie Foley (Westborough, Mass.) in the bottom of the frame, but Skivo answered with a two-out double to bring home Raymond in the top of the fifth. The Green and White then tacked on three more insurance runs in the top of the seventh to put the game away.

Topel worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the fourth, recording her only strikeout of the day for the final out to keep the Beavers in front by two. Sealey came on in relief in the fifth and gave up one run on four hits over the final three frames to earn the save.

Sophomore Jacelyn Lees (Watauga, Texas) lasted just 3.2 innings for Wesleyan after giving up five runs on eight hits while striking out three and fell to 2-2 on the year with the loss.

Dominican 9, Babson 1 (5 inn.)
DeLong went 2-for-2 with a double, Raymond produced an RBI triple and senior Sophia Pak (New Rochelle, N.Y.) singled and scored for the Beavers. Walsh also reached base twice with a single and a walk in the defeat.

Ryley Davis (Gilbert, Ariz.), Emme Slavens (Bridgman, Mich.) and Madisen Butler (Eureka, Mo.) each knocked in a pair of runs for the Stars, who broke the game open with a six-run first inning. Hannah Richards (Poulsbo, Wash.) improved to 3-3 in the circle with win after giving up just one run over 4.0 innings.

Isabella Olmos (Mokena, Ill.) led the game off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch, Davis followed with a two-run single to center and Butler made it 6-0 with another two-run base hit to center before Babson could record an out. First-year Anna Ziccardi (Metuchen, N.J.) allowed just one hit over her first three innings of relief before Dominican (6-8) struck for three more runs in the fourth, including a two-run homer to left by Slavens that extended the margin to 9-0.

The Green and White broke up the shutout in the bottom of the fourth though, as Pak laced a one-out single to left and came all the way around from first to score on Raymond's triple to deep center one batter later.

Babson is back in action on Sunday when it takes on Geneseo and No. 13 Wisconsin-Whitewater at Hancock Park in Clermont, Fla., beginning at 9 a.m.
