Baseball Drops Opening Game in Florida to Bowdoin, 11-5

DAVENPORT, Fla.—Senior Will Logue (Santa Rosa, Calif.) hit a second-inning grand slam and junior Henry Bibeau (Portland, Maine) homered twice as part of a four-hit day to help Bowdoin College defeat Babson College, 11-5, in non-conference baseball action Friday afternoon at the Northeast Regional Park.

Babson, which was playing for the first time since March 1, slips to 1-3 on the year. Bowdoin improves to 3-3 with the victory.

Junior Jack Moses (Belle Mead, N.J.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI, classmate Ryan Liss (Hollywood, Fla.) singled and drove in two runs, and sophomore Gabe Harmon (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and first-year Robert Christensen (Scotch Plains, N.J.) finished with a single and an RBI to lead the Beavers. Sophomore Gabe Cushner (Harrington Park, N.J.) walked three times and scored a run, while graduate student Cooper Smith (Naples, Fla.) was tagged with the loss after giving up six runs over three innings.

Senior Lukas Tsai (Fair Lawn, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI and classmate Liam Foley (Wrentham, Mass.) doubled twice and scored a pair of runs for the Polar Bears, who finished with the game with six extra-base hits. Junior Hugh Devine (Haverford, Pa.) struck out two over two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to pick up the win as four relievers combined to hold Babson to just one run over the final five frames.

Moses came through with a two-out RBI single to right in the bottom of the first, but Bowdoin answered in the top of the second, loading the bases thanks to a pair of singles and a walk before Logue hit his first career grand slam to make it 4-1. Tsai homered to left with one out in the third and Bibeau hit his first dinger of the afternoon to lead off the fourth extending the lead to 6-2 before Liss cut the Beavers' deficit in half with a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the frame.

The Polar Bears loaded the bases and scored on a ground out in the sixth and Tsai brough home Foley with an RBI base hit in the seventh to make it 8-4, and first-year Conor Gavin (Waltham, Mass.) escaped a self-inflicted bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the inning thanks to a strikeout and a double-play to kill a Babson scoring threat.

Babson returns to action on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. when it takes on Saint Joseph (Conn.) in Davenport, Fla.
