BABSON PARK, Mass.— Senior
Alexander Merson (Palisades Park, N.J.) and first-year
Maxim Zlobinsky (Greenvale, N.Y.) registered victories in both singles and doubles as No. 12 Babson College registered a 7-0 victory over No. 27 New York University in non-conference men's tennis action Saturday afternoon inside the Longfellow Health Club.
With the win, Babson improves to 5-0 on the season while NYU drops to 1-1.
The Beavers swept the singles matches as sophomores
Edward Wang (Burr Ridge, Ill.) and
Sebastian Mendoza (Weston, Fla.), graduate student
Ryan Patrick (Darien, Conn.), and first-year
Rishi Batlanki (Monroe Township, N.J.) all posted victories. Junior
Louis Bourn (Geneva, Switzerland) and first-year
Max Lidman (Stockholm, Sweden) also recorded a doubles win for the Beavers.
Babson earned the doubles points with 6-0 wins at number two and number three. Merson and ZLobinsky defeated the duo of Shido Ito and Jeh-Lei Fan, and Bourn and Lidman breezed past Boris Slesarev and Rahul Sundaresan. NYU earned its only victory of the day when Bryan Hui and Niklas von Hellens got past Wang and Mendoza at number one, 7-6.
Wang and Mendoza posted 6-2, 6-2 decisions at number two and number three singles, respectively, over Hui and Louis Frowein. Zlobinsky closed out the team decision with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Ito at number four.
Merson was a 6-3, 7-6 winner at number one singles over Von Hellens. The Beavers finished off the shutout with victories by Patrick at number five, 6-3, 6-4, and Batlanki at number six, 6-3, 6-1.
The Beavers will be right back in action on Sunday with a match against No. 3 Tufts at 4 p.m. at the Bass River Tennis Club in Beverly, Mass.
