Women's Soccer Battles to Scoreless Draw at Clark

WORCESTER, Mass.—Senior goalkeeper Callahan Cottone (Medway, Mass.) recorded a season-high five saves to help visiting Babson College play to a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Wednesday night at Granger Field.

Babson, which extended its unbeaten streak to six games, is now 4-4-3 overall and 1-0-3 in conference play. Clark, which is winless in its last two contests, is 5-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the NEWMAC.

Following an opening 45 minutes that featured just one shot on target, both teams created a number of scoring chances in a wide-open second half. Cottone made her second save of the night tipping Cougars' junior Selene Hammad's (Franklin, Mass.) 25-yard strike over the crossbar in the 49th minute before Beavers' junior Josie Lee (Duxbury, Mass.) created space at the top of the box only to see her shot bang off the crossbar less than four minutes later.

Clark junior Georgia Louis (West Hartford, Conn.) saw her blast from inside 10 yards deflect off the back of a teammate at the 54:07 mark and Babson first-year Olivia Taylor (Easton, Conn.) found herself wide open at the right post but mishit Lee's cross 44 seconds later. Louis played a ball across the top of the six-yard box to junior Solimar Rivera (Worcester, Mass.) in the 69th minute but her shot was partially blocked by Beavers' first-year Jaxie Hrkach (Lexington, Mass.) and hit the post before rolling out of play as the game stayed deadlocked.

Senior Janiya Ocampo (Pawtucket, R.I.) controlled a loose ball in the box following a long free kick by sophomore Lindsay Cassady (Westfield, Ind.) and tried to slip a close-range shot inside the left post only to be denied by Cougars' senior goalkeeper Gabrielle Huryn (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) in the 74th minute. Cottone made her final save of the night in the 87th minute, extending to punch away a 15-yard rocket by Louis that was headed towards the upper right corner.

Senior Priscilla-Rose Men-Martin's (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.) header off a corner kick by Cassady hit the crossbar and bounced out of play in the 31st minute, while Cottone made the only save by either goalkeeper in the first half in the 25th minute, stepping off her line to push aside a flick by sophomore Kory Lloyd (Jamestown, N.C.) from inside six yards.

Cottone, who is now 4-4-2 on the year, recorded her third shutout of the season and seventh of her career. Huryn made four saves to keep her second clean sheet of the fall.

The Beavers finished with a 19-17 edge in shots and also held a 5-3 edge in corner kicks over 90 minutes.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts Mount Holyoke at 12 p.m. while Clark takes on Smith at 1 p.m.
