Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Settles for 1-1 Draw with Rhode Island College

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Ben Cosentino (Farmington, Conn.) scored his first goal of the season in the 74th minute but Babson College conceded a late equalizer and settled for a 1-1 draw with visiting Rhode Island College in non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

Babson, which has tied back-to-back games, is now 6-2-4 on the year. Rhode Island College, which has lost just once over its last six matches, is now 5-4-4 overall.

The Beavers dominated the first 80 minutes of the match and finally broke the scoreless deadlock by taking advantage of a defensive miscue by the Anchormen. First-year goalkeeper Jake Raymond (Chepachet, R.I.) was forced to race out to the right corner of the box to play a slow-rolling back pass and his clearance deflected off Cosentino, who chased down the loose ball and tapped it into the open net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

The Green and White was unable to see the game out though, as Rhode Island College scored on its only shot on target of the match in the 85th minute. Sophomore Julian Orellana (Providence, R.I.) chased down a loose ball along the right sideline and whipped a service into the box that bounced twice through traffic for first-year Maco Hoxhilli (Somerville, Mass.), who one-touched his finish past Babson first-year goalkeeper Bradan Condit (Denver, Colo.) for his first career goal.

Babson missed a golden opportunity to take the lead less than three minutes into the second half when sophomore Connor Hanrahan (Naperville, Ill.) was pushed down going to goal by Raymond, setting up a penalty kick, but senior Will Lloyd (Lexington, Mass.) blasted the spot kick over the crossbar. First-year James Cooper (Paget, Bermuda) missed just wide of the right post in the 57th minute, and Raymond denied a volley by junior Phillip Finch (La Jolla, Calif.) from the corner of the six-yard box in the 78th minute, just 90 seconds after classmate Christian Gardner (Miami, Fla.) sailed an open look from inside 15 yards over the crossbar.

Raymond also made a diving save to push away a 25-yard blast by sophomore Nicholas Adams (Norwell, Mass.) on the only shot on goal by either team in the first half in the 20th minute.

Condit, who was making his first collegiate start, did not make a save for the Beavers, who finished with a 19-4 edge in shots for the match. His counterpart Raymond turned away five shots in his fifth start of the year.

Both sides are back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m. as Babson hosts Salve Regina, while Rhode Island College travels to Western Connecticut.
