No. 5 Men's Soccer Travels to Gordon on Tuesday Night

No. 5 Men's Soccer at Gordon
Tuesday, September 9 | 7 p.m.
Brigham Athletic Complex | Wenham, Mass.

SERIES HISTORY

•    Babson is 15-3-2 all-time against Gordon in a series that dates back to 1961.
•    The Beavers and Fighting Scots met in four straight years from 1968-71 and in 13 consecutive seasons from 1990-2002 before playing for the first time in more than two decades last September.
•    The teams split their final four matches from 1998-2002 with each side winning twice prior to last season's draw.

LAST MEETING
•    Mattias Gutierrez '25 scored in the ninth minute but the Beavers conceded a late equalizer and settled for a 1-1 draw with Gordon on September 10, 2024, in Babson Park.
•    Tyler Fidrych M'25 picked up his first assist of the season and Walker White '25 finished with five saves for Babson, which outshot the visitors 16-7 and attempted 11 of the 12 corner kicks in the match.
•    Gilbert Daru scored a highlight-reel goal in the 87th minute for the Fighting Scots, who got six saves from Carson Flake.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
•    No. 5 Babson (2-0-1) extended its unbeaten streak to 14 games with a 1-0 win over Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon.
•    Junior Alexander Yablonovskiy found the upper right corner with a header for the only goal of the match in the ninth minute and sophomore goalkeeper JB Montague made five saves in his first career start for the Beavers, who kept their first clean sheet of the season.
•    Yablonovskiy (3-0-6) has scored once in every game this fall and has a goal in four of his last five matches going back to last November, first-year Conor Hanrahan (1-0-2) tallied a second-half goal in the season opener, and juniors McKenzy Pierre and Ted Rosenfeld have each recorded one assist.
•    Montague (1-0) has not allowed a goal in 151 minutes of action over two seasons, while senior Derek Polanco (1-0-1) owns a 1.00 goals against average and a .667 save percentage in two starts this fall.

SCOUTING THE FIGHTING SCOTS
•    Gordon (2-0-1) is unbeaten in its last six outings going back to last year and is coming off a 2-0 win over Lasell last Wednesday.
•    Cortez Cardone opened the scoring in the 14th minute and Nick Vavala tacked on an insurance tally in the 72nd minute for the Fighting Scots, who got one second-half save from Landen Lonesky to post their first shutout of the year.
•    Brothers Cortez Cardone (1-1-3) and Max Cardone (1-1-3) lead the team in scoring, while Vavala, Zach Hutt and Sylver Godines have all scored once for a Gordon squad that has gotten points from seven different players through three games.
•    Riley Calemmo is 1-0-1 with a 1.00 goals against average and a .667 save percentage in two starts, while Lonesky and Isaiah Diaz both played 45 minutes in last week's victory over Lasell.

SUCCESS ON THE ROAD
•    The Beavers, who will play four consecutive road games over the span of 10 days beginning Tuesday night, went unbeaten over their four road matches away from home in 2024 (3-0-1) and are 11-1-11 away from home dating back to September 14, 2023.
•    On the flip side, Gordon will play its fourth straight game at home where it is riding an 11-game unbeaten streak (5-0-6) since September 17, 2024.

QUALITY DEPTH
•    After using the same starters in back-to-back games to open the season, Montague, Pierre, Rosenfeld, graduate student Albion Bacaj and junior Titus Charles all made their first start of the season in Saturday's win over Wesleyan.
•    Both Montague and Charles were part of the starting XI for the first time in their respective careers, while Bacaj made his Babson debut after starting 16 of 17 matches at Sacred Heart as a first-year in 2021 and appearing in 17 contests over three seasons at Marist from 2022-24.

BEAVER BITES
•    Yablonovskiy is the first Babson player to score a goal in each of the team's first three games since Eric Anderson '13 produced four goals over the first three outings of the 2012 campaign.
•    The Beavers' current 14-game unbeaten streak is their longest since 2011 when bounced back from an 0-2 start by going 20 straight matches without a loss (16-0-4) on the way to reaching the NCAA Tournament sectional semifinals.
•    The Green and White is 7-0-3 against Conference of New England (CNE) foes since 2021, a mark that includes wins over Western New England (1-0), Roger Williams (2-1) and Suffolk (1-0) in addition to last year's draw versus Gordon.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
•    The Beavers are 2-0 this season and 12-0-1 since the start of last season when leading at halftime.
•    Babson has won its last 13 matches when scoring at least two goals.
•    The Green and White has limited 34 of its last 36 opponents to one goal or fewer going back to October 23, 2014.
•    The Beavers are unbeaten in their last 11 fixtures (7-0-4) in the month of September going back to 2023.

UP NEXT
•    Babson plays the first of two games in Atlanta, Ga., when it faces Covenant on Friday at 6 p.m.
