BABSON PARK, Mass.—Sophomore
Angelina Holm (Denver, Colo.) led a balanced attack with nine kills and five blocks as Babson College defeated visiting University of New England in four sets, 25-14, 25-18, 17-25, 25-19, in non-conference women's volleyball action on Saturday afternoon inside Staake Gymnasium.
With its second consecutive win, Babson improves to 6-3 on the year. The University of New England has dropped three of its last four contests to slip to 5-6 overall.
Senior
Isabella Allen (Williamsville, N.Y.) hit .571 and recorded eight kills, junior
Hailey Fouche (Montclair, N.J.) contributed seven kills and 10 digs, and classmate
Allison Molendyk (Danville, Calif.) chipped in with seven kills and two service aces for the Beavers. Junior
Zoe Ackerman (Aurora, Colo.) dished out 34 assists to go along with 11 digs, while senior
Sophia Shaw (Novato, Calif.) led all players with 19 digs in the victory.
Senior Elijah Hanley (Pupukea, Hawaii) registered a match-high 10 kills and eight digs, while junior Hannah Nowell (Woburn, Mass.) added eight kills and nine digs to pace the Nor'easters. Sophomore Hayley Shult (Buffalo, Minn.) handed out 19 assists and senior Kelsey Bradshaw (San Antonio, Texas) totaled 15 digs in the loss.
Allen, Holm and Fouche combined for 12 of Babson's 15 first-set kills as the hosts hit .375 and used a 13-4 run to turn a one-point lead into a 23-13 advantage en route to a double-digit victory. Down 12-7 in game two, UNE got two kills from Hanley, another from sophomore Chloe Miracle (Hilliard, Ohio) and an ace from first-year Lylah Shumway (Northfield, N.H.) as part of a 7-1 spurt to forge a 14-13 edge. The Green and White answered back though, scoring 12 of the next 14 points including three kills by Holm and a pair of aces by Molendyk for a 24-16 lead and a two-set advantage in the match.
The Beavers made 12 errors and were unable to dig out of an early 11-3 hole in the third, but responded by hitting .478 in the fourth set. The Nor'easters led by as many as five twice before using a five-point run to go in front 13-12 on a service ace by first-year
Harmony Powers (Makawao, Hawaii).
First-year
Ailsa Munro (Sylmar, Calif.) had four kills in the span of seven points to give the hosts a 21-17 edge, while Holm followed with a block and a kill to extend the margin to six late.
Babson returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Wheaton at 7 p.m., while UNE visits Gordon on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

• The Beavers are 7-6 all-time against the Nor'easters and Saturday's match was the first between the teams since 2009.
• Babson has won the opening set in eight of nine matches this season and is now 3-2 in four-setters.
• The Green and White has won 30 of its last 33 contests inside Staake Gymnasium.
• The Beavers are now 39-1 over the last three seasons when holding their foes to a hitting percentage of .150 or lower after UNE hit .064 on Saturday.
