WELLESLEY, Mass.— Junior
Grace Mullaney (Boxford, Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist, and five different players put a goal on the scoreboard as No. 6 Babson College downed Wellesley College, 5-1, in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) field hockey opener for both schools Saturday afternoon at Butler Stadium.
The Beavers posted their second win in a row and improved to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in the NEWMAC while the Blue drops to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Caroline DiGiovanni (Harwich, Mass.) and sophomore
Penny Baroni (Dennis, Mass.) also scored for the Beavers, and first-year
Anna Bonazzoli (Clinton, Mass.) and sophomore
Charlotte Roe (Wayne, Pa.) registered an assist. First-year
Madison Tibbals (Gorham, Maine) was made two saves in goal in the victory.
Sophomore Claudia Summers (San Diego, Calif.) scored the lone goal for the Blue, with an assist from classmate Annika Schermerhorn (Clifton Park, N.Y.). Sophomore Hannah Simmonds (Austin, Texas) and first-year Katelyn Hurt (Carrollton, Texas) combined for 12 saves in the Wellesley goal in the setback.
The Blue scored the game's opening goal in the eighth minute when Summers connected on a reverse shot into the left side of the cage. Schermerhorn set up the play to earn an assist.
The Beavers evened the score less than three minutes later converting on a play off a penalty corner. Bonazzoli's shot from the right side found Mullaney through traffic waiting on the left side of the goal and Mullaney redirected it into the back of the goal for the 1-1 tie.
Babson scored three times in the second quarter for a 4-1 lead at the half. Reed buried her second goal of the season in the 17th minute, Baroni put one in from the top of the circle on a penalty corner in the 25th minute, and Michelotti knocked in a loose ball from right in front in the 29th minute for the three-goal lead at the break.
Wellesley kept the visitors off the scoreboard in the third quarter, but DiGiovanni notched her team-leading seventh tally of the season in the 48th minute, punching a loose ball past Hurt to round out the scoring,
The Green and White outshot the hosts 31-4 and had an 18-3 advantage in penalty corners.
Babson is back in action next Saturday with a visit to Mount Holyoke at 12 p.m. Wellesley remains home on Tuesday to welcome the University of New England for a 5:00 p.m. showdown.
