Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Defense Dominates as Women’s Soccer and Endicott End in Draw, 0-0

BABSON PARK, Mass.— Babson College limited Endicott College to just four shots overall and two shots on target, but the Beavers couldn't muster a goal of their own as the teams battled to a 0-0 draw in a non-conference women's soccer match Tuesday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

With the deadlock, the Beavers recorded their third draw in four outings this fall and move to 1-0-3 overall while the Gulls registered their first tie and are now 2-4-1.

The Babson defense, led by juniors Claudia Baiter (Miami, Fla.) and Caroline Sutherland (Millville, Mass.) and first-years Lindsey Cassady (Westfield, Ind.) and Izzy Lee (Phoenix, Ariz.) posted their third shutout of the season. Senior Cleo Grignard (Red Bank, N.J.) and junior Callahan Cottone (Medway, Mass.) each made one save in 45 minutes between the pipes to combine for the clean sheet.

The Endicott defense, backboned by seniors Madeline Barbieri (Cranston, R.I.), Chloe Bauman (Southington, Conn.) and Michelle Donahue (Melrose, Mass.) and first-year Catherine Groth (Burnt Hills, N.Y.), limited Babson to three shots on goal, all of which were stopped by sophomore keeper Amanda Cosgrove (Newton, Mass.).

The hosts had a 4-3 shot advantage in the first half and had the two best scoring opportunities. First-year Emily Bacon (Mechanicsburg, Pa.) had a clean shot from top of the box that was corralled by Cosgrove, and sophomore Alexa Pesiridis (Hollis, N.H.) worked to get off a shot from the same spot three minutes later but sailed her attempt high over the top left corner.

Babson had another scoring chance in the 66th minute on a free kick in the left corner by Sutherland. Baiter leaped and knocked a header on goal but Cosgrove made the save. Sophomore Josie Lee (Duxbury, Mass.) curled a corner kick from the left corner with six minutes remaining but Cosgrove stepped up and punched the ball away.

Endicott had its best chance with five minutes to play on a cross by senior Alyssa McColl (Stoughton, Mass.) that was headed on goal by senior Samantha Klimas (North Andover, Mass.) but was denied by Grignard.

Babson finished with an 11-4 advantage in total shots (3-2 in shots on goal), while Endicott took three corner kicks while allowing just one.
