WELLESLEY, Mass.—Junior
Matia Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) registered victories in both singles and doubles as third-seeded and 15th-ranked Babson College swept second-seeded Wellesley College, 4-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Tennis Tournament semifinal Saturday afternoon at the Amy Batchelor '88 Tennis Courts.
With the victory, Babson punched its ticket to the NEWMAC final and improved to 14-5 overall. Wellesley, which defeated the Beavers during the regular season, dropped to 15-4 on the season.

Olivia Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) won the top flight doubles match, Babson captured the doubles point on a victory by sophomore
Dana Kamal (Cairo, Egypt) and first-year
Mia Sorrentino (Miami, Fla.) at number three. The Beavers went on to clinch the team victory on singles wins by Cristiani at number two, first-year
Alessandra Cristiani (San Salvador, El Salvador) at number three, and junior
Kamila Stasiowska (Burlington, Conn.) at number five.
Matia Cristiani and
Olivia Soffer opened the scoring with a 6-2 victory over Sofia Corte-Real (Stamford, Conn.) and Kotistha Modak (Chennai, India) at number one doubles, 6-2. Wellesley answered with a 6-3 victory at number two by Emilee Pak (Chicago, Ill.) and Rianna Mariotti (Forest Hills, N.Y.) over sophomore
Chaniel Soffer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and
Alessandra Cristiani. Kamal and Sorrentino pulled out a 6-4 decision over Suzanne Xu (Boyds, Md.) and Lily Cade (Minneapolis, Minn.) at number three.
The Beavers extended the lead to 2-0 when Matia defeated Xu at number two singles, 6-1, 6-2. Alessandra followed with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Corte-Real at number three, and Stasiowska put the nail in the coffin with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Nandini Patel (Phoenix, Ariz.) at number five.
The Beavers led two of the three unfinished matches as
Olivia Soffer was up 6-4, 1-2 over Modak at number one and
Chaniel Soffer won the first set, 7-6, over Sophie Buttorff (Tacoma, Wash.) at number four. Mariotti was nearing a victory over Kamal at number six, 6-3, 5-1.
Babson advances to the NEWMAC championship match at top-seeded and No. 8 MIT on Sunday at the DuPont Tennis Courts in Cambridge. The Engineers won their semifinal encounter on Saturday over fourth-seeded Smith, 4-0.
MATCH NOTES
• The Beavers have won five of their last six against Wellesley and is 15-34 all-time against the Blue in a series that dates back to 1989.
• Babson is 7-7 all-time against Wellesley in the conference playoffs, including a 5-0 verdict in 2024.
• The Green and White avenged a 4-3 loss to the blue in an eight-hour regular season match back on March 30.
