No. 14/16 Women’s Lacrosse Rolls Past Framingham State, Extends Win Streak to Six, 20-7

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.—Senior Clare Connolly (Hanover, Mass.) finished with a team-high six goals and 19 draw controls, and 10 different players scored at least one goal as No. 14/16 Babson College produced a 20-7 victory over Framingham State University in a non-conference women's lacrosse game at the Maple Street Field.

Babson, ranked 14th by the IWLCA and 16th by USA Lacrosse Magazine, captured its sixth straight victory and improved to 9-2 overall. Framingham State had its four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 6-5 on the season.

Senior Kathryn Blake (Medfield, Mass.) tallied two goals and three assists and classmate Amelia Novitch (Dover, Mass.) added two goals and two helpers for the Beavers. Junior Lilly Bedard (Jupiter, Fla.) contributed two goals and an assist, seniors Cameron Rabenold (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Nora Lema (Duxbury, Mass.) added a pair of goals apiece, and classmates Michaela Downer (North Andover, Mass.) and Jessica Evans (Southbury, Conn.) chipped in with one goal and one assist each. First-year Alivia Downer (North Andover, Mass.) caused three turnovers, and senior Kathleen Murphy (Scarborough, Maine) and sophomore Morgan McGahan (Ho Ho Kus, N.J.) both made two saves in 30 minutes between the pipes.

Senior Leah Green (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored five goals and classmate Hailey Baker (Peabody, Mass.) led the Rams offensively. Baker also caused three turnovers and scooped up three ground balls, and junior Bella DiMare (Wakefield, Mass.) and first-year Allie Wurms (Shelton, Conn.) each made five saves in 30 minutes in the setback.

Lema and Blake gave Babson a 2-0 lead with goals in the first five minutes, and Connolly and Novitch doubled the margin in the next five minutes for the Beavers. Junior Kelley DeBellis (New Fairfield, Conn.) put the Rams on the scoreboard with 54 seconds remaining in the opening frame but Novitch and Connolly answered with back-to-back goals to close out the stanza with a 6-1 lead.

Babson pulled away with the first four goals of the second quarter as Evans and Downer scored once each and Connolly fired in a pair. Green stopped the bleeding for Framingham but the next six goals belonged to the visitors, including a pair of player-up goals by Rabenold, a player-up marker by Bedard, two more by Connolly and one by Blake as the Babson lead grew to 16-2 early in the third quarter.

Green and first-year Estelle Gromko (Ipswich, Mass.) traded goals and then Green and Bedard exchanged goals to close out the third quarter. Framingham outscored the Beavers in the final frame on two goals by Green and one by Baker while Lema and sophomore Mia Fierro (Oswego, N.Y.) accounted for the final two goals for Babson.

The Beavers return to action on Sunday with a non-conference match-up at Bowdoin at 1 p.m. in Brunswick, Maine. Framingham State plays a non-league game at Amherst on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
