WINTER HAVEN, Fla.—Senior Jason Morgan (Logan Township, N.J.) and sophomore Brayden Davis (Shamong, N.J.) both homered and No. 17 D3baseball.com/No. 23 ABCA Rowan University tacked on four runs in the eighth inning to pull away for an 11-5 win over No. 19 D3baseball.com/No. 30 ABCA Babson College in non-conference baseball action on at the RussMatt Invitational on Sunday.
Babson, which had its two-game winning streak snapped, is now 5-2 on the year. Rowan has won its last seven games to improve to 8-1 overall.
Senior
Justin Guest (West Windsor, N.J.) went 4-for-4 with a double and an RBI, graduate student
Thomas Parisi (Somers, N.Y.) was 3-for-4 with two doubles and junior
Ryan Hvozdovic (Hillsborough, N.J.) hit a two-run homer to lead the Beavers' 12-hit attack. Senior
Walter Sadowsky (Morristown, N.J.) added a triple to go along with a pair of walks and two runs scored in the loss.
Sophomore Joey Bogart (Sicklerville, N.J.) was 3-for-3 with two RBI and junior Nick Struble (Hackettstown, N.J.) and senior Phil Sedalis (Wenonah, N.J.) both doubled and finished two hits and two RBI for the Profs. First-year Austin Kreyenhagen (Souderton, Pa.) struck out five and allowed just earned runs over 6.0 innings to pick up his first win of the season, while senior Sean Colbert (Audubon, N.J.) recorded the final six outs to collect his first save.
The Green and White jumped on top 1-0 thanks to a two-out RBI single by Guest in the top of the first before Rowan took advantage of an error and a squeeze bunt by Bogart after loading the bases thanks to a single and two walks in the bottom of the frame to take a 3-1 lead. Parisi cut the Babson deficit to 3-2 with a two-out, RBI double in the second, but Davis led off the bottom of the third with a solo homer and Bogart and senior Chris Serrano (Kearney, N.J.) produced RBI singles in the fifth to extend the margin to 6-2.
Sadowsky scored on a passed ball after leading off the sixth with a triple and Hvozdovic smashed a two-run homer over the fence in left field with two outs in the seventh to pull the Beavers within 7-5. First-year
Gabe Cushner (Harrington Park, N.J.) singled and Parisi followed with a double to put runners on second and third with two outs in the top of the eighth, but Colbert induced an inning-ending ground out and Rowan put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the frame.
Sedalis got things started with a two-run double and later scored on a error to make it 10-5 before Morgan capped the rally by racing home on a wild pitch.
Junior
Vinnie Purpura (Hopkinton, Mass.) shouldered the loss in his Babson debut allowing three runs, all of them unearned, in an inning of work.
The Beavers return to action on Tuesday when they face Scranton at 12 p.m. in Auburndale, Fla.
GAME NOTES
• Babson is 0-2 all-time against Rowan and Sunday's contest was the first between the teams since 2011.
• The Beavers are now 3-1 this spring against nationally-ranked foes.
• Hvozdovic extended his hitting streak to three games and Cushner has now reached base safely in each of his six starts on the year.
• Sunday's loss snapped a run of 18 straight wins for Babson when scoring at least five runs.
