Third-Period Rally Lifts Men’s Ice Hockey Past UMass Boston, 4-2

BOSTON — Babson College rallied for three consecutive third-period goals and junior Nate Mueller (Rogers, Minn.) finished with 30 saves as the Beavers pulled out a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over the University of Massachusetts Boston in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's ice hockey game on Saturday afternoon inside the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink.

Babson completed the weekend sweep over the Beacons to up its record to 13-9-1 overall and 11-7 in the NEHC. UMass Boston fell to 7-13-1 overall and 5-10-1 in conference play.

Senior Wyatt George (Mount Lebanon, Pa.) tallied a goal and an assist for the Beavers and classmate Michael Holland (Charlotte, N.C.) and juniors Will Holland (Charlotte, N.C.) and Ryan Murphy (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) scored once each in the victory. Senior Brendan Murphy (Arlington, Mass.), juniors Egan Schmitt (Schuylerville, N.Y.), Cam Joslin (Cohasset, Mass.) and Danny Cavanagh (Warwick, R.I.) and sophomore Sean Senier (Melrose, Mass.) chipped in with one helper apiece.

Seniors Kolye Bankauskas (Coventry, R.I.) and Michael Krupinski (Dallas, Texas) finished with a goal and an assist each for the Beacons, and sophomore Chris Repmann (Middletown, N.J.) and first-year Michael Lynch (Stoneham, Mass.) registered assists. Senior Tyler Bost (Mahwah, N.J.) turned away 39 shots in the loss.

UMass Boston was the first to light the scoreboard with two minutes remaining in the first period. Krupinski fired a shot from the top of the left circle that was stopped by Mueller, but the rebound deflected off Bankauskas's skate and into the net to make it 1-0 at 18:01.

The Beacons doubled their lead with a power play goal 12 minutes into the second frame as Krupinski ripped a shot from the right point past a screened Mueller to make it 2-0 at 12:02.

The Green and White got on the scoreboard less than two minutes later when Joslin picked up a loose puck in the slot, skated to the right circle and put a shot on goal; Bost made the save but Michael Holland buried the rebound for his first goal of the season at 13:43.

Babson pulled even with a power play goal five minutes into the third period. Schmitt sent a pass from the right face-off dot to George at the left dot, and George made a diagonal pass to the far post where Ryan Murphy slammed home the tying goal at the 5:06 mark.

The Beavers took their first lead of the game at 15:38 on Will Holland's second goal of the season. Cavanagh won a face-off back to Holland at the right point and his laser shot got past Bost to put the visitors in front, 3-2. George added an insurance goal at 18:09 when he was sent in on a breakaway by a lead pass from Senier and he beat Bost glove side to the upper corner under the crossbar.

Babson finished with a 43-32 advantage in shots on goal. Both teams scored a goal on the power play, UMB going 1-for-3 and Babson 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

The Beavers will be idle next weekend before wrapping up the regular season with a two-game series against No. 1 Hobart on February 21-11 at the Babson Skating Center. UMass Boston travels to Albertus Magnus for a two-game set next weekend.
