Babson Athletics Matches Best Finish and Point Total in Fall Directors’ Cup Standings

BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College Department of Athletics and Recreation matched its best finish and point total at the conclusion of the fall season in the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings, as the Beavers stand 28th among more than 425 Division III colleges and universities across the country. The Green and White also placed 28th in fall 2023.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup is awarded annually to the nation's best overall collegiate athletics program. Each institution is awarded points in a predetermined number of sports for men and women.

The Division III program began in 1995-96 by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA TODAY, and it has since grown into a universally recognized mark of distinction among collegiate institutions.

In addition to matching its best fall standing, Babson tied for its highest point total with 183. The Beavers rank seventh in the most competitive region behind fellow New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) school MIT (T-10th) and five New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) institutions ranked between first and 13th.

Field hockey, men's soccer and women's volleyball combined to rack up the 183 points. Field hockey's deep postseason run to the NCAA Tournament Final Four led to 83 points, while men's soccer's and women's volleyball's NCAA second round appearances provided 50 points each.

Field hockey produced another historic season by finishing 22-2, including a program-best 18-game winning streak, and advancing to the national semifinal round for the second time in three years and third occasion overall. Babson earned a sixth straight NCAA Tournament berth.

Men's soccer advanced to its 33rd NCAA Tournament and sixth straight overall after capturing its second consecutive NEWMAC Tournament championship. The Beavers went 11-7-4 on the season.

Women's volleyball returned to the NCAA Tournament for the seventh time in eight seasons and advanced to the second round for the ninth time in nine overall appearances. The Green and White posted a record of 23-8.

The final set of winter standings will be published on Thursday, April 2.
