Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men’s Ice Hockey Rolls Past WestConn for Fourth Straight Win, 7-0

DANBURY, Conn.— Junior Jimmy Fallon (Milton, Mass) tallied a goal and two assists and Babson College got goals from seven different players and points from 12 skaters on the way to a 7-0 victory over Western Connecticut State University in a Little East Conference (LEC) men's ice hockey game Saturday afternoon inside the Danbury Ice Arena.

With the victory, the Beavers improve to 4-0-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the LEC, while the Wolves (0-4-0, 0-2-0) are still looking for their first win in their first season as a varsity program.

Seniors Will Holland (Charlotte, N.C.) and Danny Cavanagh (Warwick, R.I.) registered a goal and an assist each for the Beavers, and seniors Nolan Woudenberg (Collegeville, Pa.), Ian Driscoll (Middleton, Mass.) and Brendan Kennedy (Georgetown, Ont.) and sophomore Evan Brown (Little Silver, N.J.) also potted goals. Seniors Charlie Andriole (Branford, Conn.) and Sam Sibold (South Hero, Vt.) and sophomore Raphael Marcoux (Quebec City, Quebec) collected two assists each and junior goalie Mason Rosado (Weddington, N.C.) made 13 saves for his second career shutout in his season debut.

First-year Liam Lane (Castle Rock, Colo.) made 26 saves in 34-plus minutes in the WestConn goal and classmate Malte Hedlund (Skelleflea, Sweden) stopped 20 shots in a 26-minute stint between the pipes.

Despite a 14-4 advantage in shots in the opening period, Babson didn't get on the board until the final minute. After Kennedy and senior Cam Joslin (Cohasset, Mass.) won a battle along the left boards, Kennedy carried the puck to the right circle before his shot beat the goalie inside the left post to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead after one.

The Green and White started to pull away with a pair of power play goals four minutes apart in the second period. The first one came on a 3-of-2 rush, and junior CJ Beals (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Fallon set up Brown for a goal from the left circle at 3:53, and Marcoux kept the puck in the zone at the left point before finding Woudenberg in the high slot, and Woudenberg's slap shot beat the goalie stick side at 8:03 for a 3-0 lead.

Fallon extended the Babson lead to 4-0 at 12:46 of the second period, redirecting a shot by Andriole from the left point for his third goal of the season.

The Beavers continued to dominate the Wolves, outshooting the hosts 20-4 in the second period and 19-5 in the third before closing out the game with three goals in the final six minutes. Holland fired in a shot through traffic from the left point on a rebound of a shot by Cavanagh at 14:11; Marcoux sent senior Ryan Murphy (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) and Driscoll in on a 2-on-1 that was finished by Driscoll at 17:11; and Cavanagh finished off the scoring with a goal from the slot on a pass from Sibold at 18:24.

The visitors finished with a 53-13 margin in shots on goal and went 2-for-5 on the power play while killing off both attempts by the Wolves with the man advantage.

Babson returns home to host Norwich in an LEC game on Friday at 7 p.m. while WestConn travels to Anna Maria for non-conference action on Thursday at 5:40 p.m. in Auburn, Mass.
