BABSON PARK, Mass.—Sophomore
Timmy Mulvey (Reading, Mass.) poured in a career-high 31 points and classmate
Ryan Frauenheim (Manasquan, N.J.) scored eight of his 11 points over the final 2:15 to help Babson College defeat the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), 87-82, in non-conference men's basketball action on Sunday afternoon inside Staake Gymnasium.
With its second consecutive win, Babson improves to 6-1 on the season. Saint Joseph has dropped back-to-back games to slip to 3-3 on the year.
Mulvey knocked down a career-high seven three-pointers and went 12-of-14 from the floor, while sophomores
Logan Murphy (Sandwich, Mass.) and first-year
Robby Fiore (Acton, Mass.) added 10 points as four players finished in double figures for the Beavers. Senior
Timmy O'Toole (Milton, Mass.) chipped in with eight points and led all players with 16 rebounds, and Murphy and first-year
Thomas Ferdinando (Andover, Mass.) both dished out four assists in the win.
Senior Friedrich Feldrappe (Berlin, Germany) finished with teams highs of 21 points and nine rebounds, sophomore Roel Figueroa (Cidra, Puerto Rico) scored 20 points and senior Lence Altenor (Everett, Mass.) added 19 points and four assists to pace the Blue Jays.
The Green and White, which trailed by as many as 13 early in the first half was down 66-61 with 10:01 to play before going on a 7-2 run that included back-to-back tip-ins by senior
Tyler Lauder (Malvern, Pa.) and O'Toole to pull even at 68 with 7:22 left. Saint Joseph regained a 73-69 advantage thanks to a three-pointer by Figueroa and two free throws by Altenor, but Mulvey answered with five straight points to give the hosts a 74-73 edge with 4:18 to go.
Mulvey answered a three-pointer by the Blue Jays' graduate student Ethan McEachern (Portland, Ore.) on the following possession, and Frauenheim followed two more free throws by Altenor with a triple to put Babson ahead for good 80-78 with 2:15 remaining. He stripped McEachern on the ensuing possession and banged another trifecta to five the Beavers an 83-78 lead with 1:34 to go.
Mulvey buried an elbow jumper with 49 seconds left after Altenor had scored to cut the Saint Joseph deficit to three, and Frauenheim sealed the win with two free throws with 19 ticks to play.
The Blue Jays made nine of their first 11 shots to build a 23-10 advantage just over six minutes into the contest. The visitors were still up 10 at the 8:43 mark before the Green and White went on a 9-0 run that included three-pointers by Mulvey, Murphy and Ferdinando to pull within on with 5:49 to go in the opening stanza. Saint Joseph pushed the margin back to eight but Fiore drilled a pair of triples and Murphy scored off a steal to cut the Babson deficit back to three just over a minute before halftime.
The Beavers shot 51.6 percent from the floor and made a season-high 17 three-pointers in addition to finishing with a 36-24 advantage on the glass. The Blue Jays shot 50 percent for the game and outscored the hosts 16-6 at the free throws line.
Both teams return to action on Wednesday as Babson hosts No. 19 WPI at 6 p.m., while Saint Joseph takes on No. 1 Trinity at 7 p.m.

• Babson's 17 three-pointers are its most since making 18 in a 96-71 win at Springfield on February 10, 2022, and just two shy of the program's single-game record set back on December 1, 2018.
