Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Andriole’s Three Points Lifts No. 11 Men’s Ice Hockey Past Williams, 4-2

BABSON PARK, Mass.— Senior Charlie Andriole (Branford, Conn.) scored a pair of goals and added an assist for a career-high three points as No. 11 Babson College skated past Williams College, 4-2, in a non-conference men's ice hockey game Saturday afternoon inside the Babson Skating Center.

With the victory, Babson improves to 7-1-1 on the season while Williams had a two-game winning streak stopped and slid to 2-3-0 overall.

Seniors Egan Schmitt (Schuylerville, N.Y.) and Ryan Murphy (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.) scored a pair of third period goals for the Beavers, classmate Will Holland (Charlotte, N.C.) had a pair of assists, and fellow seniors Nolan Dion (Marshfield, Mass.), Mike Stevens (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Brendan Kennedy (Georgetown, Ont.) and junior Jimmy Fallon (Milton, Mass.) contributed one assist each. Senior Nate Mueller (Rogers, Minn.) made 23 saves in goal, including 10 in the third period, in the win.

Senior Liam Jones (Lincolnshire, Ill.) and junior Brady Welsch (Fond du Lac, Wis.) tallied goals for the Ephs, senior Connor Berg (Boston, Mass.) had a pair of assists, and junior Nate Heithoff (Minneapolis, Minn.) and senior Jared Lambright (Clifton Park, N.Y.) each added a helper. Sophomore Kael DePape (Yorkton, Sask.) finished with 36 saves in goal in the setback.

Andriole's first marker was the only goal of the first period. Andriole and Kennedy skated up ice on a 2-on-2 and after a Williams defender knocked the puck away from Kennedy, Andriole buried the loose puck from the right circle past DePape for a 1-0 lead at 9:21. Andriole made it 2-0 with a power play goal three minutes into the second period, ripping a slapshot from five feet in front of the blue line through traffic and past DePape.

The Ephs got on the board two and a half minutes later when Jones tucked one in at the far post after a pass from Heithoff at the bottom of the left circle. Williams tied the game at 2-2 with a power play goal three minutes into the third period on a shot through traffic by Welsch at the right point.

Babson regained the lead at 6:10 of the third period. Andriole and Fallon broke up a Williams breakout in the neutral zone and sent Schmitt in on a partial breakaway, and he snapped a shot past DePape for the eventual game-winner. Murphy tacked on a power play goal less than three minutes later with his back to the goal in the slot, redirecting a shot from the point by Dion past DePape to make it a two-goal lead.

The Beavers finished with a 40-25 advantage in shots on goal and went 2-for-3 on the power play, while the Ephs scored once on two opportunities with a man-advantage.

Both teams return to the ice on Sunday at 3 p.m., as the Green and White hosts Amherst at the Babson Skating Center and Williams welcomes No. 9 SUNY Geneseo to the Lansing Chapman Rink.
