BABSON PARK, Mass.— Junior
Alexander Yablonovskiy (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) recorded his second career brace as Babson College blanked Clark University, 2-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
With the victory, Babson remained unbeaten in conference play at 6-4-2 overall and 2-0-0 in the NEWMAC. Clark dropped its fourth straight outing and fell to 3-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in the league.
Sophomore keeper
JB Montague (Lutz, Fla.) made two saves for his second career shutout for the Beavers, who outshot the visitors, 10-3.
Senior Diego Marin (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) made one save in goal for the Cougars in the loss.
Yablonovskiy put the Beavers on the board early when he put a low-left liner into the back of the net on a penalty kick just two minutes into the contest. He had two additional scoring chances in the first half but put a header just over the top of the net in the 19th minute and had the same result on another header in the 23rd minute.
It was an early strike for Yablonovskiy in the second half as well, settling a pass 15 yards away from the goal, making a move to split a pair of defenders and hitting a left-footed shot inside the right post for his second of the game and team-leading sixth of the season.
Babson's best chance after that in the second half was a long-range shot by first-year
Adam Stetson (Granby, Mass.) but he was denied by Marin in the 70th minute.
Montague posted the clean sheet after diving to his right to stop a shot by first-year Jacob Ordonez (Rosenberg, Texas) late in the first half and a header by sophomore Jordan Adeyemi (Exeter, N.H.) in the 81st minute.
The teams combined for just six shots on goal and three corner kicks on the afternoon.
Babson is home again next Saturday in a conference match, hosting MIT at 1 p.m. at Hartwell-Rogers Field. Clark travels to Roger Williams for a non-conference encounter on Monday at 4 p.m.
