SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Senior
Isabella Allen (Williamsville, N.Y.) was named to the all-tournament team as the Babson College women's volleyball team concluded the New England Challenge by splitting a pair of matches on Saturday inside Blake Arena.
The Beavers (16-5) recorded a four-set victory over Williams College (25-16, 27-29, 25-20, 25-14) in their opening match of the day before falling in five sets to Tufts University, 17-25, 25-21, 25-17, 19-25, 17-15, to close the tournament.

Hailey Fouche (Montclair, N.J.) hit .419 and recorded a career-high 16 kills, Allen added 14 kills and first-year
Ailsa Munro (Sylmar, Calif.) totaled eight kills in 11 swings as the Green and White finished with a .282 hitting percentage in the victory. Junior
Zoe Ackerman (Aurora, Colo.) handed out 38 assists to go along with four service aces, first-year
Misaki Harte (San Jose, Calif.) also provided four aces, and senior
Sophia Shaw (Novato, Calif.) led all players with 12 digs in the victory.
Senior Annaliese Fricke (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied 12 kills and junior Morgan Daetz (Danville, Calif.) chipped in with 21 assists and nine digs to lead the Ephs.
The Green and White dominated the opening set hitting .457 and putting away 18 kills, but Williams responded by hitting .379 and erasing three set points to win a second set that featured 13 ties and five lead changes. Babson regained control of the match in game three, building a six-point advantage before holding off a late rally by Williams (16-6).
First-year Sophia Baer (Naples, Fla.) recorded back-to-back blocks to end a four-point run that cut the Beavers' lead to 20-19, but first-year
Devon Burke (Newtonville, Mass.) and Murno each recorded a kill as the Green and White scored five of the final six points in the stanza to go in front 2-1.
The Green and White pulled away early in the fourth set scoring eight seven points on the serve of Shaw to build an 11-2 edge that ballooned to as big as 11 on three occasions.
Tufts 3, Babson 2
Sophomore
Sofia Ibarra (Coral Gables, Fla.) recorded a career-high 13 kills, Munro finished with 11 kills and seven blocks, and Fouche added 10 kills and two blocks to pace Babson. Ackerman doled out 43 assists and Shaw totaled a season-high 26 digs in the loss.
Junior Emma Heckmann (San Diego, Calif.) led three players in double figures with a match-high 14 kills, classmate Rianna Liu (Foster City, Calif.) produced 24 assists and 13 digs, and senior Julia Griffiths (Lexington, Mass.) provided 11 total blocks in the win for the Jumbos.
The Green and White hit a blistering .519 while recording 15 kills to cruise toa 25-17 win in the opening set. The Beavers totaled just 12 kills while making 16 errors over the next two frames allowing Tufts (18-5) to grab a 2-1 lead in the match.
After falling behind 3-0 in the fourth, Babson scored 12 of the next 15 points including two kills apiece by Ibarra, sophomore
Angelina Holm (Denver, Colo.) and first-year
Liberty May (Grapevine, Texas) to build a six-point advantage. The Jumbos got as close as one late in the stanza, but Ibarra, Holm and Allen each registered a kill in the span of four points to extend the margin back to 22-18.
The Beavers trailed by as many as four twice in the decisive fifth set before going on a 6-1 run to take their first lead at 12-11 on a kill by Fouche. Tufts scored three of the next four points to go back in front 14-13 and closed out the match on its third set point thanks to a block by Griffiths.
Babson returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Salve Regina at 7 p.m.
MATCH NOTES
• The Beavers have won two straight matches to improve to 5-8 all-time against Williams and drop to 3-22 overall versus Tufts.
• Babson has gone 2-1 in back-to-back seasons in the New England Challenge and is now 13-16 in the 10-year history of the tournament.
• The Green and White had just two receiving errors against both Williams and Tufts on Saturday, which is tied for its second lowest total of the year.
• The Beavers totaled 36 total blocks in three matches over the weekend and averaged 2.57 blocks per set.
