Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Charles Scores Twice as Men's Soccer Downs WPI, 3-0

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Titus Charles (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) scored once in each half to help Babson College defeat visiting WPI, 3-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

With the win, Babson improves to 8-5-3 overall and 4-1-1 in conference play. WPI has dropped its last two matches to slip to 5-5-5 overall and 2-3-1- in the NEWMAC.

Junior Alexander Yablonovskiy (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) contributed a goal, while senior Joao Araujo (Boca Raton, Fla.), junior Huey Miller (Gill, Mass.), sophomore Maxi Martinez (Miami, Fla.) and first-year Adam Stetson (Granby, Mass.) registered an assist for the Beavers. Sophomore goalkeeper JB Montague (Lutz, Fla.) made three saves to record his fifth shutout of the year.

Sophomore goalkeeper Savio Ketnouvong (Paxton, Mass.) made three saves in the loss for the Engineers.

The Green and White went in front in the 41st minute on Charles' second goal of the season. Stetson chested down a long ball into the box by first-year Blake Miller (Odessa, Fla.) and Huey Miller beat a defender before leaving the ball off for Charles, who drilled a shot inside the right post for a 1-0 lead.

The Beavers doubled their advantage in the 59th minute when Araujo won possession in the midfield and clipped a ball into the box before the WPI defense for Yablonovskiy, who took a touch before blasting a half-volley past the outstretched hands of Ketnouvong for his eighth tally of the season. Montague made a terrific save diving to his left to deny Engineers' sophomore Mike Montabana's (Jamison, Pa.) 30-yard rocket following a giveaway in the 66th minute, and Charles put the game away by completing his brace with 10:28 remaining.

Martinez intercepted a service back into the box following a corner and played a long ball for Charles who headed the ball past Ketnouvong 50 yards from goal and ran the ball into the empty net for the final margin.

The Beavers finished with an 11-5 edge in shots while WPI held a slim 2-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Both teams are back in action on Tuesday as Babson hosts 10th-ranked Wheaton at 3 p.m., while the Engineers meet Emerson at 7 p.m.
