BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College Athletics is transforming the gameday experience for people who enter Staake Gymnasium with the addition of three state-of-the-art LED video boards, including one large high-resolution display on the wall behind the scorer's tables and a pair of massive ribbon board displays along each baseline.
"Our intention is to create an unmatched game atmosphere and home court advantage," said Pamela P. and Brian M. Barefoot Associate Vice President for Athletics and Athletics Advancement
Mike Lynch. "We have programs that compete at the highest level and this facility upgrade reflects that. With the unveiling of these new boards and technology, there has already been a great buzz and excitement around the fan experience."
A vision combined with the support of a handful of incredibly generous donors made this modernization of delivering a digital experience to men's and women's basketball and women's volleyball events a reality. "We greatly appreciate the foresight and philanthropy from a group of Babson faithful who are passionate supporters of the College," added Lynch.
Displayed content from Babson's Athletics Marketing team includes pre-game and in-game graphics, visuals and hype videos, as well as department and college produced videos and sponsor ads. The boards will also be utilized during select halftime programming, including team recognitions, community events and celebration ceremonies.
The department partnered with Watchfire and Sign Design for the video boards and install. The main video display stands over eight feet tall and nearly 25 feet wide, while the ribbon boards extend close to three times that width. They are approximately 30 inches in height.
Watchfire's S-Series indoor video boards are designed specifically for use in sports complexes, gyms and arenas. Their features include high resolution, close viewing angles, full motion video, and brilliant colors to build excitement with fans, players and advertisers.
Named after Babson Athletics Hall of Famer and former College Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students
Paul C. Staake Jr., the facility has seen multiple upgrades in recent years that includes a refinished traditional hardwood floor, composite bleachers on both sides of the gym, six brand-new baskets, branded hand-sewn banners displaying accolades, three scorer's tables, and several branded padded chairs.
