Men's Hoops Outlasts No. 3 Trinity in 2OT, 99-89

Beavers Hand Bantams First Loss, Pick Up Second Consecutive Top-10 Victory

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Graduate student Felix Kloman (Ipswich, Mass.) and junior Timmy O'Toole (Milton, Mass.) combined for 13 points in the extra sessions to help Babson College outlast No. 3 Trinity College 99-89 in double-overtime on Saturday afternoon inside Staake Gymnasium.

Babson, which has won four straight contests, picked up its third top-15 victory of the season to improve to 7-4 overall. Trinity, which has lost just three times in its last 44 outings, suffered its first loss of the year and is now 11-1.

Senior Nate Amado (Hanson, Mass.) finished with 24 points and seven rebounds, while graduate student Alex Stoddard (Wellesley, Mass.) scored a career-high 22 points to lead four players in double figures for the Beavers. Kloman ended with 19 points, a game-high seven assists and five boards, and O'Toole posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

Henry Vetter (Kenilworth, Ill.) led all scorers with 30 points and junior Drew Lazarre (West Haven, Conn.) finished with 22 points and eight rebounds to pace the Bantams. Senior Will Dorion (Needham, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points, five rebounds and three assists in the loss.

Vetter poured in 17 points and Trinity led by as many as 10 late in the first half before the Green and White closed an 18-8 run that included a three-pointer from first-year Ryan Frauenheim (Manasquan, N.J.) and a steal and a layup by sophomore NeJohn Fortes (New Bedford, Mass.) in the final seven seconds to make it 41-all at the break. The Beavers took their first lead at 55-54 on a three-pointer by Stoddard with 14:10 to go in the second half and followed up four straight points by the visitors with an 8-0 run to stretch the margin to 63-58 on a triple by Amado at the 9:33 mark.

First-year Timmy Mulvey (Reading, Mass.) made it 70-63 with a left-corner three with 6:29 to play and Kloman canned two free throws for a 78-70 advantage with 2:21 left before Trinity went on an 8-0 run that included back-to-back three-pointers by Lazarre and Vetter to tie the game with 34 seconds remaining. Amado was unable to connect on a contested jumper in the closing seconds sending the game to overtime.

The Bantams took an 85-81 lead on a layup by Lazarre with 1:48 to go in the first extra session but Amado answered with a hoop in the paint and Kloman tied it up with 34 seconds to go before Vetter missed a potential game-winning three-pointer to force a second overtime. Kloman scored Babson's first four points and then set up O'Toole for a layup to give the hosts a 91-87 advantage with 53 seconds to play.

O'Toole and Mulvey both knocked down a pair of free throws to make it 95-87 with 30 ticks left and the Green and White went 10-of-10 at the charity stripe over the final 38 seconds to put the game away.

The Beavers shot 46.7 percent from the floor and knocked down 14 three-pointers in addition to scoring 24 points off of 20 Trinity turnovers. The Bantams shot 61.5 percent in the first half and 49.3 percent for the game while finishing with a 42-35 edge on the glass.

Babson returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Clark at 6 p.m., while Trinity hosts Worcester State on Monday at 7 p.m.
