Men's Ice Hockey

Babson Hockey Alum Boxer's Transformative Gift Endows Head Coach Position

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College graduate, entrepreneur, executive and former men's ice hockey player Greg Boxer '07 is providing a transformative gift to endow the program's head coach position.

Named The Boxer-Rice Head Men's Ice Hockey Coach, this gift as part of the Champions Forever campaign will support the men's ice hockey program and have a lasting impact on its student-athletes in perpetuity.

"This is an extraordinary commitment and one that will forever strengthen a flagship program at Babson," said Pamela P. and Brian M. Barefoot Associate Vice President for Athletics and Athletics Advancement Mike Lynch. "Greg's vision for Babson hockey, together with his commitment to the development of our student-athletes and amazing relationship with Coach Rice, brought this gift to fruition. We are deeply grateful to Greg for his passion and generosity in extending a tradition of hockey excellence at the College."

A four-year goalie for the Beavers from 2003-07, Boxer is a native of Bedminster, New Jersey, and has proudly called Oklahoma City home since 2014. He was a part of teams that advanced to three conference tournament finals, including the 2007 squad that captured an ECAC East title and reached the NCAA Tournament quarterfinal round.

"There's no way I would be where I am in life without the mentorship and guidance I received from Coach Rice," said Boxer. "Being able to provide this investment into the program on his 20-year anniversary was a special way to celebrate a man that I deeply respect and admire."

"What an amazing and transformative investment Greg is providing to the Babson men's ice hockey program," said Governor Craig R. Benson Endowed Executive Vice President for Advancement Edward Chiu. "His special relationship with Coach Rice and attachment to the program and College is evident. Greg's generosity will have a profound impact on Babson men's ice hockey for generations to come, and I look forward to witnessing the program's continued ascension with these newfound resources."

Boxer and his business partners have successfully started, grown, and monetized multiple large-scale energy companies since 2017. He also sits on the Folds of Honor Oklahoma Board of Directors, currently serving as chapter president.

"The Babson men's ice hockey program and Coach Rice mean a lot to me on several levels," said Boxer. "I credit Coach Rice for teaching me the importance of teamwork, discipline, hard work, staying positive, leaving your ego at the door, and doing what's best for the team's success."

With origins dating back to the late 1940s, men's ice hockey is one of the oldest and most successful programs in Babson Athletics history. In eight decades of varsity play (first season was 1952-53), Babson has posted nearly 900 wins, made 18 NCAA Tournament appearances, and claimed Division III's first national championship in 1984.

Boxer's gift is intended to continue elevating the program for the foreseeable future. "Coach Rice's legacy should be celebrated, and I am excited to make this investment and help with keeping the program one of the most successful and competitive programs in the country for many years to come."

The Champions Forever campaign is a first-of-its-kind athletics-specific fundraising designed to boldy move Babson Athletics forward while strengthening the department's position as one of the preeminent athletics programs in NCAA Division III. The campaign matches the school's 23 varsity programs and hundreds of student-athletes with best-in-class experiences and national success. It supplies the critical resources to support Babson's student-athletes and coaches as they pursue excellence on the field of play, in the classroom and in our broader community.
