Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Amado Powers Men's Hoops Past Springfield, 70-53

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Nate Amado (Hanson, Mass.) scored 20 of his game-high 31 points in the first half to lead Babson College to a 70-53 win over visiting Springfield College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball action on Tuesday night inside Staake Gymnasium.

Babson, which has won six of its last seven games, improves to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in league play with the win. Springfield has dropped four of its last five outings to slip to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the NEWMAC.

Amado finished 12-of-16 from the floor and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds to post his fourth double-double of the year for the Beavers. Graduate student Alex Stoddard (Wellesley, Mass.) and junior Timmy O'Toole (Milton, Mass.) both contributed eight points, while first-year Ryan Frauenheim (Manasquan, N.J.) chipped in with seven points and two steals off the bench.

Sophomore Xoren Livingston (Wayland, Mass.) led three players in double figures with 13 points for the Pride. Graduate student Jarron Flynn (Roslindale, Mass.) added 11 points and two steals, while senior Curtiss Blische (Barkhamsted, Conn.) contributed 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds in the loss.

The Green and White shook off a slow start with a 16-3 run that included eight points from Amado and five more from Stoddard to build a 22-9 lead with 9:18 to go in the opening half. Blische and Flynn combined for 10 points as Springfield responded with a 13-4 spurt to get as close as four at the 4:34 mark of the stanza, but Amado scored the Beavers' final seven points, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer, to stretch the margin back to 33-24 at the break.

Babson scored on six of its first 10 possessions to open the second half and got points from six different players to push its advantage to 48-32 on a three-ball by graduate student Felix Kloman (Ipswich, Mass.) with 12:48 remaining. Senior David Cross (Cinnaminson, N.J.) scored in the paint and set up Amado for a three-point play to make it 53-35, and Amado followed up a three-pointer by Frauenheim with a two-hand slam in transition to give the Beavers their largest lead of the night at 60-37 with 7:21 to go in the contest.

The Green and White shot 51.6 percent in the second half and 43.1 percent for the game while outscoring the Pride 38-22 in the paint. The Beavers also scored 20 points off of 14 Springfield turnovers.

The Pride, which outscored the hosts 17-6 at the free throw line, shot just 32.7 percent from the floor in the loss.

Both teams are back in action on Thursday at 7 p.m. as Babson travels to Wheaton, while Springfield visits Coast Guard.
