Women's Soccer Suffers 4-0 Loss at Brandeis

Box Score WALTHAM, Mass.—Brandeis University scored three times in just over nine minutes midway through the second half and defeated visiting Babson College, 4-0, in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday night at Gordon Field.

Babson is now 0-2 on the year while Brandeis improves to 2-0 with its second consecutive shutout.

Sophomore Tanvi Raju (Hyderabad, India) scored a pair of goals, junior Sam Kipperman (Middlebury, Conn.) added a goal and an assist and first-year Katie Collins (Littleton, Mass.) chipped in with a marker to lead the Judges. Senior Rachel Walter (Stevenson Ranch, Calif.) recorded two assists and graduate student Rachel Ross (Portchester, N.Y.) made three first-half saves in her first start of the season.

Senior Nora Ryan (Abington, Mass.) made three first-half saves and sophomore Callahan Cottone (Medway, Mass.) stopped shots over the final 45 minutes for the Beavers.

Brandeis opened the scoring on Raju's third goal of the season in the 30th minute. First-year Laurene Creteau (Madison, N.J.) ran onto a long ball down the left flank and drove towards the end line before dropping a pass back towards the penalty spot for Raju, who finished inside the right post for a 1-0 advantage.

Senior Laura Lukowicz (Coventry, R.I.) made a sliding block to force Leroy's shot out of danger on a breakaway in the 41st minute and Ryan pushed away a bouncing header by Collins on the ensuing corner kick. Lukowicz came up with another huge defensive play in the 43rd minute when she cleared away a shot from the right side of the box after she eluded Ryan to maintain Babson's one-goal deficit going into halftime.

After a near miss by Creteau in the 51st minute, the Judges doubled their advantage just past the hour mark when Kipperman flicked a low corner kick by Walter from the corner of the six-yard box inside the back post for her first career goal in the 63rd minute. The hosts put the game away in the 68th minute when Raju took advantage of a failed clearance and drilled a shot from the top of the box over the outstretched hand of Cottone to make it 3-0.

Collins capped the scoring in the 72nd minute when she banged home a rebound following a corner kick.

The Judges finished with a 21-7 edge in shots and an 8-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Both teams are back in action on Saturday as Babson travels to Rowan for a 1 p.m. start, while Brandeis visits Rhode Island College at 2 p.m.
