Women's Volleyball Sweeps Simmons in Road Debut

BOSTON—Junior Isabella Allen (Williamsville, N.Y.) hit .556 and led all players with 10 kills as visiting Babson College rolled to a three-set sweep of Simmons College (25-19, 25-16, 25-18) in non-conference women's volleyball action on Tuesday night inside the Holmes Sports Center.

With its third straight victory, Babson improves to 7-1 overall. Simmons, which has split its last four matches, drops to 2-7 on the year.

Allen's 10 kills came on 18 swings without an error, senior Lauren Gips (Winter Park, Fla.) contributed seven kills and two blocks, and sophomore Hailey Fouche (Montclair, N.J.) added five kills and six digs for the Beavers. Classmate Zoe Ackerman (Aurora, Colo.) dished out 30 assists, junior Roz Cabuena (Kailua, Hawaii) finished with a team-high seven digs and senior Tatum Stelter (Glendale, Ariz.) led all players with four service aces in the win.

Sophomore Hannah Pridgeon (Winter Garden, Fla.) registered eight kills and nine digs, while graduate student April Beatty (Rochester, N.H.) contributed five kills, six assists and 10 digs to lead the Sharks.

The opening set featured eight ties and three lead changes before Babson, which trailed by as many as three twice, took control late. After going in front 18-17 on an errors, kills by first-year Angelina Holm (Denver, Colo.), Allen and Fouche extended the margin to 21-17. Holm recorded another kill two points later and Allen and Fouche sandwiched kills around an ace by Stelter to close out the frame.

Game two was deadlocked at 12 before the Green and White put together a 9-1 run to go in front for good. Senior Lauren Griffin (Los Altos Hills, Calif.) made it 14-12 with a kill, Fouche and Gips combined on a block for a five-point lead, and Ackerman followed up a kill by Fouche for a 21-13 advantage. Simmons got within seven twice but kills by Griffin, Gips and Allen put the set away.

Down 5-3 early in the third, Babson rattled off nine of the next 11 points to go ahead 12-7 on a kill by Ackerman. The Sharks got back within four thanks to a pair of kills by Pridgeon before the Beavers answered with three kills by first-year Sofia Ibarra (Coral Gables, Fla.) and an ace from junior Lilly Steiner (Hingham, Mass.) to build their largest lead of the stanza at 20-12.

The Green and White hit .312 as a team in the win while holding the Sharks to a .130 hitting percentage and a season-low 24 kills.

Babson returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Brandeis and Endicott beginning at 11 a.m., while Simmons travels to UMass Dartmouth on Thursday at 7 p.m.
