Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Dominates No. 13 Trinity, 16-7

Connolly Sets Beavers' All-Time Draw Controls Record in First Win Over Bantams Since 2008

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Clare Connolly (Hanover, Mass.) scored a career-high five goals and recorded 12 draw controls to become the program's all-time leader as Babson College rolled to a dominating 16-7 win over No. 13 Trinity College in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Sunday afternoon at MacDowell Field.

With its fourth straight win, and second over a top-20 opponent, Babson improves to 5-1 on the year. Trinity has dropped back-to-back games to slip to 4-3 overall.

Junior Jessica Evans (Southbury, Conn.) finished with three goals and three assists, graduate student Lily Ives (Chappaqua, N.Y.) had two goals and two assists and senior Genevive Bushey (Lakeville, Conn.) and junior Michaela Downer (North Andover, Mass.) both scored twice to pace the Beavers. Senior Zoë Michaud (Bedford, N.H.) and junior Kylie McCarthy (Danvers, Mass.) each recorded three caused turnovers, while classmate Kathleen Murphy (Scarborough, Maine) made eight saves in the win.

Connolly's 363 draw controls passed Babson's previous career mark of 354 set by Trisha Babson '12 from 2009-12.

Sophomore Molly McGuckin (Darien, Conn.) finished with a goal and an assist to go along with four ground ball and three draw controls as seven different players scored in the loss for the Bantams. Sophomore Ali Macdougall (Southbury, Conn.) and first-year Olivia Aguirre (Cherry Hills Village, Colo.) both made four saves.

Connolly scored twice over the first four minutes and Evans set up a tally by Downer and then notched her first goal of the game to stake the Green and White to a 4-0 lead with 8:54 to go in the opening stanza. Sophomore Caroline Lally (Norwell, Mass.) got Trinity on the board with 3:19 left in the first but the Beavers' stifling defense keyed another four-goal run that stretched the margin to seven less than six minutes into the second.

Downer scored for the second time late in the first quarter, Connolly tallied for the third time 53 seconds into the second and Evans and junior Amelia Novitch (Dover, Mass.) followed with goals just 59 seconds apart to make it 8-1 with 9:10 to go before halftime. The Bantams notched two of the next three markers to close within 9-3, but Evans answered back with 18 seconds left in the period and Babson scored six of the first seven goals of the second half to put the game away.

Ives made it 12-4 at the 6:17 mark of the third quarter, Bushey scored twice over the final 16 periods of the stanza and Connolly and Ives tacked on goals over the first eight minutes of the fourth as the Beavers' lead got as big as 16-4 with 7:30 to go.

Babson, which finished with 15 caused turnovers, outshot the visitors 33-22 and held a 16-10 edge in draw controls. The Beavers also scored on 4-of-9 free-position chances while holding the Bantams to just two goals on seven chances.

Babson is back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Mount Holyoke at 7 p.m., while Trinity returns home to face Bates next Saturday at 12 p.m.
