Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Senier’s First Career Goal Pushes Men’s Ice Hockey Past No. 9 Norwich, 2-1

BABSON PARK, Mass.— First-year Sean Senier (Melrose, Mass.) scored his first career goal to break a 1-1 tie early in the third period and first-year Mason Rosado (Weddington, N.C.) made 27 saves as Babson College nipped No. 9 Norwich University, 2-1, in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's hockey action Friday evening inside the Babson Skating Center.

With the victory, Babson has won four of its last five games to improve to 13-9-2 overall and 11-5-1 in the NEHC while Norwich had a four-game unbeaten streak snapped and dropped to 13-7-4 overall and 10-4-3 in league play.

Sophomore Danny Cavanagh (Warwick, R.I.) also scored for the Beavers and sophomore Nolan Dion (Marshfield, Mass.), senior Colby Bailey (Southborough, Mass.) and first-year CJ Beals (Chelmsford, Mass.) collected assists in the win.

First-year Owen Sclisizzi (Milton, Ontario) tallied the lone goal for the Cadets, with assists from Ben van Waterschoot (Whitby, Ontario) and junior Jason Galotti (Hanover, Mass.). First-year Bryce Walcarius (Aylmer, Ont.) made 21 saves in goal but suffered his first loss of the season (6-1-2).

Norwich scored the first goal of the game just 4:32 after the opening faceoff. van Waterschoot slid a pass from the right faceoff circle across to Sclisizzi in the left circle, and Schisizzi fired a low shot past Rosado just inside the left post for his fourth goal of the season.

The Beavers evened the score at 15:07 of the second period when Cavanagh's dump into the Norwich zone was broken up, but Cavanagh picked up the loose puck and lifted a shot over Walcarius' shoulder into the top left corner of the goal for his third goal of the season. Each team had a power play opportunity in the first two frames but the team went into the final stanza tied at 1-1.

Beals collected an errant Norwich pass in the neutral zone and fed Senier at the Cadets blue line. Senior danced around one defender and went in alone of Walcarius, ripping a shot top right corner glove side for what would turn out to be the game-winner.

Walcarius prevented further damage with four minutes remaining with a terrific save on Cavanagh, who went in on a breakaway after stealing the puck at the blue line. The Cadets pulled Walcarius in the final minute for an extra attacker but could not get a tying goal.

Norwich finished with a 28-23 advantage in shots on goal in the defensive battle. Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play.

Both teams wrap up the regular season with NEHC contests on Saturday at 4 p.m. as Babson hosts New England College and Norwich visits Southern Maine.
