BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior
Katelyn Mollica (Foxborough, Mass.) scored all of her game-high 15 points in the third quarter as Babson College cruised past visiting Mount Holyoke College, 75-37, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action on Wednesday night inside Staake Gymnasium.
Babson, which snapped a two-game losing streak, improves to 12-12 overall and 6-4 in conference play. Mount Holyoke has dropped 11 consecutive games and is now 2-22 overall and 0-10 in the NEWMAC.
Mollica finished 7-of-10 from the field and led all players with three steals, while sophomore
Chloe Perreault (Danbury, Conn.) scored 11 points and grabbed five points to lead the Beavers. First-year
Samantha Reale (North Attleboro, Mass.) added 10 points, a game-high five assists, five boards and two steals in the victory.
Sophomore Taryn White (Alexandria, Va.) scored all 13 of her points in the second quarter while grabbing six rebound and dishing out two assists to pace the Lyons. Junior Marley Berano (Lady Lake, Fla.) added 10 points in the loss.
Reale, Perreault and junior
Emily Flynn (Hanover, Mass.) combined to score 15 points as the Green and White outscored the visitors 16-0 in the opening quarter. Sophomore
Camille Minor (Kingston, Mass.) drilled a three-pointer 42 seconds into the second before White did all the damage during a 12-5 run that pulled the Lyons back within 24-12 with 6:01 to go in the stanza.
Senior
Rachel McMenemy (Northborough, Mass.) and Perreault answered with back-to-back hoops and Reale scored off Perreault's offensive rebounds to extend the Beavers' lead back to 30-14 with 2:29 to go until halftime. Senior
Madison Odam (San Jose, Calif.) and Perreault drilled consecutive triples to make it 36-15 at the break and Mollica scored 15 points during a 17-2 run that pushed the margin to 53-17 less than six minutes into the third quarter.
Reale answered five straight points by Mount Holyoke with a pair of free throws and Minor followed a three-pointer by Flynn with a bucket in the paint to give the Green and White its largest lead of the night at 60-22 with 1:05 to go in the stanza.
The Beavers shot 51 percent over the first three quarters and 44.3 percent for the game while finishing with a 43-26 edge on the glass and turning 21 turnovers by the Lyons into 25 points. Mount Holyoke shot just 28.9 percent and was outscored 38-8 in the paint.
Both teams conclude the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. as Babson travels to Clark while Mount Holyoke hosts Coast Guard.
