Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 11 Men's Soccer Downs No. 13 Trinity (Texas) to Reach NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals, 2-0

MIDDLEBURY, Vt.—Graduate student Kento Abe (Quincy, Mass.) and sophomore Alexander Yablonovskiy (Berkeley Heights, N.J.) scored 15 minutes apart in the second half to help No. 11 Babson College defeat No. 13 Trinity University (Texas), 2-0, in an NCAA Tournament sectional semifinal on Saturday afternoon at South Street Field.

Babson, which extended the nation's longest winning streak to 10 matches, improves to 17-1-6 overall while punching its ticket to the national quarterfinals for the first time since 1991. Trinity, which had its six-game winning streak snapped, suffered its first loss of the year and closes the season at 19-1-3.

Sophomore Ted Rosenfeld (Morristown, N.J.) picked up an assist and senior goalkeeper Walker White (Coral Gables, Fla.) made six saves to post his 12th shutout of the year for the Beavers. His counterpart, Tigers' junior Omkar Satpathy (Pleasanton, Calif.), did not make a save in the loss.

The Green and White, which was outshot 8-0 in the opening half, got on the board in the 57th minute when Abe's corner kick into the goal mouth went off the hands of Satpathy, who was trying to punch it out of traffic, and over the line for his team-leading ninth goal of the season. White was in good position to handle first-year Julian Lopez's (Austin, Texas) header off a long free kick in the 59th minute and came off his line to get a piece of senior Will Powell's (London, England) volley that was eventually cleared out of danger by graduate student Marco Cerezo (Malaga, Spain).

The Beavers doubled their advantage in the 72nd minute on Yablonovskiy's sixth marker of the year. Graduate student Samuel Kalishman (Clarksville, Md.) shielded the ball from a defender at the top of the box and played the ball out to the right flank for Rosenfeld, who hit a first-time cross that Yablonovskiy headed inside the back post.  White made a diving save to deny junior Adam Knutson's (Dripping Springs, Texas) volley in the 81st minute guessed correctly as graduate student Louis Intrall's (London, England) penalty kick drilled off the left post following a foul in the box in the 82nd minute to preserve the clean sheet.

The Tigers had a pair of quality scoring chances over the first 45 minutes but were unable to get on the board. White came off his line to kick away sophomore Samuel Theiss' (Boerne, Texas) chance from inside 10 yards in the 34th minute before classmate Joey Perryman (Flower Mound, Texas) saw his bid to open the scoring off a nice through ball from Theiss clang off the right post 28 seconds before halftime.

Trinity finished with a 16-4 edge in shots and attempted 10 of the 12 corner kicks in the match.

Babson will face No. 3 Middlebury, which the Beavers their only loss of the year back on October 14, in Sunday's sectional final at 12:30 p.m.
