UMass Dartmouth Rallies Past Men's Hoops, 87-82

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Nate Amado (Hanson, Mass.) scored a game-high 31 points but Babson College was unable to hold onto a 16-point second half lead in an 87-82 loss to visiting UMass Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon inside of Staake Gymnasium.

Babson has dropped its last two games to slip to 1-3 on the year, while UMass Dartmouth improves to 2-3 on the year with the win.

Amado went 10-of-15 from the floor and added four rebounds and four assists, while graduate student Felix Kloman (Ipswich, Mass.) finished with 21 points, five boards and four steals to pace the Beavers. Sophomore NeJohn Fortes (New Bedford, Mass.) scored a career-high 10 points to go along with seven rebounds in the loss.

Junior Josh Lopes (Taunton, Mass.) scored 18 of his team-high 30 points in the second half to lead three players in double figures for the Corsairs. Graduate student Isaac Percy (Pittsfield, Mass.) contributed 20 points and junior Ryan Flauto (Whitinsville, Mass.) added 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go along with a game-high nine rebounds in the win.

Kloman scored nine of his 19 first-half points as the Green and White built a 15-2 lead less than three minutes into the contest. UMass Dartmouth got back within four on three occasions over the final six minutes of the period but junior Timmy O'Toole (Milton, Mass.) scored on back-to-back possessions to spark a 12-4 spurt that helped the Beavers push their advantage back to 48-36 at the half.

Amado made four straight free throws and O'Toole finished inside to give Babson its largest lead at 54-38 with 17:22 to go in the game. Percy answered with back-to-back hoops and then knocked down a three-pointer to cap a 16-2 UMass Dartmouth run that tied the game at 56 with 12:51 remaining.

Amado scored 13 of the Beavers' next 17 points, which included an emphatic dunk to make it 73-71 with 6:15 to go before the Corsairs seized control of the game with a 10-1 run that ended with consecutive three-pointers by Percy and Lopes for an 81-74 edge with 2:28 left. The Green and White got as close as 85-82 on a three-pointer by first-year Timmy Mulvey (Reading, Mass.) and stole the ensuing inbounds pass before stepping on the sideline with 13 seconds remaining, which allowed Lopes to seal the UMass Dartmouth victory with a pair of free throws.

The Beavers shot 64.5 percent in the first half and 51.7 percent for the game in addition to outscoring the visitors 46-40 in the paint. The Corsairs shot 47.6 percent from the floor and 94.7 percent (18-of-19) at the free throw line while scoring 24 points off of turnovers.
