WORCESTER, Mass.—Senior Isabella Ramirez (New York, N.Y.) broke a scoreless deadlock in the 52nd minute to lift Clark University to a 1-0 win over visiting Babson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Granger Field.
With the loss, Babson closes the regular season at 7-6-5 overall and 5-3-3 in league play, and will be the fourth seed in next week's conference tournament. Clark won for the second time in three matches to end its season at 5-11-2 overall and 2-7-2 in the NEWMAC.
Babson finished with a 19-4 edge in shots, which included a 9-1 bulge in attempts on frame, but was unable to get on the board. Senior Annabella White (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) made nine saves to keep her third clean sheet of the year for Clark.
The Cougars scored the only goal of the afternoon following a counterattack just over five minutes into the second half. The Beavers stopped the initial rush but Ramirez stripped a defender and took a touch to her left before ripping a shot past Ryan and inside the right post from the top of the box for her second goal of the year.
White pushed a blast by senior
Carolina Silva (Miami, Fla.) over the crossbar less than three minutes into the game and then punched a 25-yard strike by senior
Elisa Diletizia (Canton, Mass.) that was headed for the upper left corner out of danger in the 12th minute. Her best save of the second half came with under nine minutes to go, diving to her left to deny Diletizia.
Babson will host fifth-seeded Wheaton in a NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
