Fast Start Helps Women's Basketball Cruise Past Roger Williams, 72-57

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Emily Flynn (Hanover, Mass.) and sophomore Samantha Reale (North Attleboro, Mass.) both scored 18 points to lead three players in double figures as Babson College defeated visiting Roger Williams University, 72-57, in non-conference women's basketball action on Friday night inside Staake Gymnasium.

Babson, which snapped a two-game skid, improves to 2-2 on the year. Roger Williams is now 0-2 with the loss.

Flynn finished 7-of-8 from the floor and 4-of-5 from three-point range on the way to setting a new career high in scoring in addition to grabbing a game-high nine rebounds. Reale led all players with four assists and four steals, while senior Katelyn Mollica (Foxborough, Mass.) contributed 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting to go along with three steals for the Beavers. Senior Camilla Silk (Medfield, Mass.) chipped in with eight points and seven boards and junior Chloe Perreault (Danbury, Conn.) pulled down eight rebounds in the win.

Junior Sophia Coppola (Madison, Conn.) scored 13 points and E. Dufrane (Falls Church, Va.) added 12 points and three steals for the Hawks.

Flynn knocked down her first three triples and Mollica knocked down another three-ball to give the Green and White a 16-4 lead less than six minutes into the contest. Reale canned four straight free throws and junior Allessia Carlo (Carmel, N.Y.) drilled another three-pointer to extend the margin to 23-9 with 1:23 left in the opening stanza.

Another trifecta by Mollica stretched the lead to 19 with 8:14 remaining in the second period, Flynn followed up a fastbreak layup by Reale with her fourth three-pointer of the half and Perreault and Silk scored inside late in the frame to give the Beavers a 39-19 advantage going into the break. Babson scored on its first possessions of the third and Reale scored 10 points in the quarter, giving Babson its largest lead of the night at 56-29 on a jumper with 3:31 to go in the period.

Roger Williams pulled within 64-49 with 3:57 to play in the fourth quarter but was unable to get any closer as Mollica scored six of the Beavers' final eight points to put the game away.

The Green and White shot a season-best 50 percent from the floor and finished with a 36-27 edge on the glass. The Hawks shot just 34 percent in the loss.

Babson returns to action next Friday when it travels to Tufts at 5 p.m., while Roger Williams visits Salve Regina on Saturday at 1 p.m.
