No. 7 Field Hockey Looks to Extend NEWMAC Win Streak Against Wellesley on Tuesday

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 20-28-1 all-time against Wellesley in a series that dates back to 1984.
• The Beavers have captured the last eight games against the Blue and 12 of the last 16 going back to 2010.
• The Green and White have won seven of the last eight by at least three goals.

LAST MEETING
Brianne McGrath '23 M'24 and junior Caroline DiGiovanni scored two goals each as No. 2 Babson extended its winning streak to nine games with a 5-0 victory over Wellesley on October 17, 2023, at Butler Stadium.
• McGrath added an assist to her two goals and Sinead Walsh M'24 contributed a goal in the win. Senior Berit Sharrow, grad student Andrea Marguerite, and Meara Hanyon '23 M'24 all collected assists and senior Bayla Furmanek made one save to earn the win in goal.
• Kyra Deehr-Lewis '24 had a strong performance at the other end of the field and finished with 14 saves.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 7 Babson (12-3, 6-0 NEWMAC) extended its winning streak to seven games with a 6-0 whitewash of Springfield on Saturday at MacDowell Field.
• Graduate student Katie Guden tallied two goals and added an assist in the victory, while Marguerite, fellow grad student Sophie Croci, senior Jessica Evans, and first-year Penny Baroni all scored one goal. Barrow and junior Alex Michelotti collected assists for the Beavers, who outshot the visitors 32-0.
• DiGiovanni (10-4-24) has matched her career high with 10 goals in a season while Evans (8-1-19) has scored a goal in eight of her last nine games. Guden (8-3-19) has at least one point in six of her last seven outings, Marguerite (6-4-16) has three goals and two assists in her last five games, and Marsh (5-3-13) has three goals and two assists in her last six contests. Senior Ellie Powers (0-5-5) leads the team in assists.
• Furmanek (0.66 GAA, 35 saves) leads the league in shutouts (9) and ranks sixth in Division III in goals against average.

SCOUTING THE BLUE
• Wellesley (9-6, 4-2 NEWMAC) is coming off back-to-back shutout losses to Endicott (5-0) last Wednesday and Smith (1-0) on Saturday.
• First-year Hannah Simmonds made four saves in the loss to Smith, which had a slim 10-9 margin in shots over the Blue. First-year Maddie Miller made seven stops in the setback to Endicott, which outshot the Blue 17-13.
• First-year Claudia Summers (8-0-16) has four game-winners and three multi-goal games, and is tied for ninth in the NEWMAC in goals while senior River Schiff (7-0-14) had a four-goal game in a win over Bridgewater State. Sophomore Alex Butulis (4-1-9) and first-year Annika Schermerhorn (4-0-8) are tied for third on the team in goals.
• Simmonds (5-4, 1.50 GAA, 40 svs.) and Miller (4-2, 1.29 GAA, 31 svs.) have split time in goal for the Blue and have combined for three shutouts.

WEEKLY HONORS
• Guden and Sharrow swept the NEWMAC weekly honors on Monday, Guden earning first offensive player of the week honor and Sharrow posting the defensive honor for the second time this season.
• Guden scored three goals and added one assist for seven points in a 1-1 week for the Beavers, while Sharrow anchored a back line that conceded just one shot and zero penalty corners in the two outings.

GOALS DENIED
• Furmanek has allowed just 10 goals in 15 games this season, including just two goals during Babson's seven-game winning streak.
• The senior goaltender recorded her 53rd career victory on Saturday, which is tops among active Division III netminders and ranks second among active goalies in all NCAA Divisions.
• With 62 consecutive starts, Furmanek (53-9) needs just two wins to match the program record for career victories set by her predecessor, Cassidy Riley '22, who was 55-11 from 2018-21.

NEWMAC DOMINANCE
• Babson extended it streak to 65 consecutive NEWMAC regular season wins over the last nine seasons since a 1-0 loss at Mount Holyoke on October 17, 2015.
• The Green and White have captured 37 straight contests against NEWMAC opponents, including the conference tournament, since a 3-2 overtime loss to MIT in the 2019 NEWMAC title game.

BEAVER BITES
• Babson is 5-1 at home this season, 19-1 at MacDowell Field since the beginning of last season and 42-5 at home over the past four seasons.
• Since 2018, the Beavers are 52-0 in the month of October, including 24-0 at home, 27-0 on the road and 1-0 at a neutral site.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers are 33-2 since the start of last year and 68-2 over the past four seasons when scoring the first goal of the game.
• The Green and White have won its last 63 games over the past four campaigns when leading at halftime.
• Babson is 97-3 since 2018 when holding the opponents to fewer than two goals.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers will play their final regular season road game on Saturday with a visit to arch-rival and 15th-ranked MIT at 12 p.m. in Cambridge.
