NEWPORT, R.I.—Junior James Jolly (Kingston, England) led four players in double figures with 16 points to help Salve Regina University defeat visiting Babson College, 68-38, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball action on Tuesday night inside the Rodgers Recreation Center.
Babson has dropped two of its last three games to slip to 7-9 overall and 3-4 in conference play. Salve Regina has won two straight contests to improve to 10-6 overall and 4-3 in its first season in the NEWMAC.
Junior
Nate Amado (Hanson, Mass.) scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Beavers, who shot a season-low 24.6 percent from the floor. Sophomore
Tyler Lauder (Malvern, Pa.) finished with seven points and eight boards, while junior
Aidan Horan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and first-year
NeJohn Fortes (New Bedford, Mass.), who made his collegiate debut, both had two assists.
Junior Declan Walmsley (Franklin, Mass.) scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, classmate Jojo Powers (Dedham, Mass.) contributed 12 points, nine boards and five assists and sophomore Miles Fiore (Narragansett, R.I.) chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds to lead the Seahawks.
Babson missed 18 of its first 19 shots but was only down 14-6 following a layup by Amado midway through the first half. Salve Regina scored on four of its next five possessions to extend its advantage to 23-6 and Walmsley provided a three-pointer and a transition dunk as part of another 7-0 spurt after the Beavers had pulled within 12 to make it 34-17 just before halftime.
The Green and White cut its deficit to 34-21 thanks to a jumper by Amado on the opening possession of the second half and trailed 45-29 with 14:10 remaining before scoring just four points over the next nine-plus minutes. Babson went 0-of-6 at the free throw line during this stretch while Jolly scored nine points for the Seahawks, who stretched the margin to 59-33 on a bucket by Fiore with 5:10 to play.
The Beavers went 0-of-27 from three-point range and were just 6-of-18 at the free throw line while getting outrebounded 45-39. Salve Regina shot 49.1 percent from the floor and outscored the Green and White 50-24 in the paint.
Both teams are back in action on Thursday at 7 p.m. as Babson hosts Coast Guard while the Seahawks take on Emerson.

• The Beavers are now 11-4 all-time against Salve Regina and have dropped two straight road games in the series.
• Babson failed to make a three-pointer for the first time since February 7, 2015, when it went 0-of-12 in a 59-55 win at WPI.
• The Beavers' 38 points is their lowest output since scoring 38 in a loss to WPI on January 5, 2013.
• In three career games against Salve Regina, Amado is averaging 21.7 points and 7.0 rebounds.
