No. 3 Field Hockey Hosts Clark in NEWMAC Opener on Friday

WHAT TO KNOW
• Babson begins the journey for its potential third straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title on Friday when Clark comes to town for a 7 p.m. contest.
• The game was moved up a day from the original schedule due to inclement weather expected in Babson Park on Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY
• The Beavers have a 21-15-2 advantage over the Cougars in the all-time series that dates back to 1985.
• Babson has won all 18 matchups going back to 2004, with the last Clark victory a 3-2 verdict in the 2003 NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinals in Babson Park.
• The Green and White has captured the last nine games at MacDowell Field, allowing just three goals and blanking the Cougars six times in that span.

LAST MEETING
• Sophomore Camille Marsh scored a pair of goals to help No. 9 Babson roll to a 4-0 win over Clark on October 22, 2022, at Granger Field in Worcester.
• Isabelle Fournier '23 and junior Berit Sharrow each scored once while graduate student Meara Hanyon and junior Jessica Evans both contributed an assist for the Beavers. Junior goalkeeper Bayla Furmanek made one save to record her sixth shutout of the season.
• Sophomore Loren Root made stopped 10 shots and classmate Emma Macintire added two defensive saves for the Cougars.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 3 Babson (5-0) pulled out a 3-2 victory over No. 15 Bates on Wednesday afternoon in a battle to Top 15 teams at rainy MacDowell Field.
• Sophomore Caroline DiGiovanni scored her first two goals of the season to help Babson remain undefeated. Grad student Sinead Walsh tallied a goal and an assist in the win, Marsh added an assist, and Furmanek turned away five shots in goal to post the victory.
• The Beavers feature a balanced scoring attack with Walsh (3-2-8), fellow grad student Brianne McGrath (3-1-7) and senior Andrea Marguerite (3-0-6) all with three goals and Hanyon (2-3-7) leading the team with three assists. Marsh (2-1-5), DiGiovanni (2-0-4) and Sharrow (2-0-4) are also multi-goal scorers.
• Furmanek (5-0, 1.00 GAA, .750 sv. pct) has started 28 straight games in goal for the Beavers dating back to last season and owns nine career shutouts.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
• Clark (2-2) is coming off a 5-0 setback to Wesleyan on Tuesday at Granger Field. The Cougars have earned victories this season over Worcester State (2-1) and Regis (8-1).
• Senior Greer McCarty tallied a hat trick in last Saturday's win over Regis, classmate Rachael Romain added a goal and two assists, and grad student Abbe Cravinho and sophomores Alison Kopec and Ciaran Cubbage all recorded a goal and an assist.
• McCarty (4-0-8) leads the team in scoring and Romain (1-2-4) has a team-high two assists.
• Root (1-2, 2.80 GAA, .708 sv. pct) has started all four games in goal for the Cougars, while sophomore Alexandra Cacciapaglia (1-0, 5.33 GAA, .385 sv. pct) has made three relief appearances.

CONFERENCE HONOR FOR MARGUERITE
• Marguerite earned her second career weekly conference honor on Monday when she was named NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week.
• The senior forward finished the week with three goals for six points in a 3-0 week. She scored in the second quarter of Thursday's 8-1 win over Roger Williams and then scored twice in the first half in the Beavers' 2-1 triumph at No. 5 Williams on Saturday. 

ONE IS FUN, TWICE IS NICE
• The Beavers have had four different players score two goals in a game in the first five outings this season.
• Marsh scored twice at Connecticut College on September 5, McGrath doubled up vs. Roger Williams on September 7, Marguerite accomplished the feat at Williams on September 9, and DiGiovanni turned the trick on Wednesday against Bates.

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE
• The Green and White have won 26 of their last 30 games on home turf at MacDowell Field.
• The Beavers are 69-16 at home since the start of the 2015 season.

STARTING STRONG
• The Green and White are off to their best start since winning their first nine games in 2017.
• The Beavers can record its fourth best start in program history with a win over Clark. The top three starts are 13-0 in 2015, 9-0 in 2017, and 7-0 in 2003.
• Babson is 23-7 in the month of September since the start of 2019, with three losses against top-ranked Middlebury.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Green and White have won 40 straight games since the start of the 2021 campaign when scoring the first goal of the game.
• Babson has won its last 38 games over the past two campaigns when leading at halftime.
• The Green and White have won 107 straight games since 2014 when scoring at least three times.
• The Beavers have won 70 of 72 contests since 2018 when holding opponents to less than two goals.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers play their third nationally-ranked team in a nine-day stretch when they travel to No. 1 Middlebury on Sunday.
