Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Late Run Pushes Wisconsin-Oshkosh Past Men's Basketball, 76-71

OSHKOSH, Wis.—The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh used a late 8-0 run to hold off Babson College 76-71 to wrap up the BSN Winter Classic on Saturday night inside Oshkosh Arena.

Babson, which has dropped three straight games, dips to 5-6 on the year. Wisconsin-Oshkosh snapped its two-game skid to improve to 7-4 overall.

Junior Nate Amado (Hanson, Mass.) led all players with 28 points and 11 rebounds to post his second double-double of the year, while graduate student Steph Baxter (Worcester, Mass.) finished with 20 points to go along with game highs of four steals and three assists for the Beavers. Junior Aidan Horan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Mark Woolhouse (Lebanon, N.J.), who grabbed a season-high eight boards, both scored six points in the loss.

First-year Michael Metcalf-Grassman (Shawano, Wis.) scored 16 points to pace four players in double figures and added team highs of seven rebounds and three assists for the Titans. Senior Quinn Steckbauer (Merrill, Wis.) finished with 13 points, classmate Will Mahoney (Appleton, Wis.) contributed 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting and sophomore Carter Thomas (Neenah, Wis.) chipped in with 10 points in the victory.

Amado scored nine early points his feed set up a Woolhouse dunk to give the Green and White its largest lead of the game at 15-7 with 12:07 to go in the first half. Wisconsin-Oshkosh responded with a 20-4 spurt that included a trio of three-pointers by Mahoney and five points apiece from Steckbauer and Metcalf-Grassman to go in front 27-19 at the 7:16 mark.

Amado and Baxter combined for 13 of Babson's next 18 points to trim the deficit to 39-37 at the break, but the Titans scored on seven of their first eight possessions to begin the second half pushing the margin back to 54-43 with 14:42 remaining in the contest. The Beavers answered back with three-pointers by Horan, senior John Gorgol (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Baxter to pull within one at the 9:09 mark and got back-to-back hoops from Amado and Woolhouse to pull even at 64 with 5:09 to go.

Babson went scoreless over its next six possessions though, and Wisconsin-Oshkosh followed up four straight free throws with layups by Carter and sophomore Jack Jorgenson (De Pere, Wis.) to go back in front 72-64 with 1:35 left. A three-pointer by Baxter and a pair of free throws by Amado got the Green and White within three with 28 seconds remaining before the Titans went 4-of-6 at the charity stripe over the final 25 ticks to put the game away.

The Beavers shot 41.2 percent from the floor and finished with a 35-32 edge on the glass in the loss. Wisconsin-Oshkosh shot 51.9 percent for the game and outscored the Green and White 44-30 in the paint.

Both teams return to action at 7 p.m. on Wednesday as Babson hosts Clark while Wisconsin-Oshkosh travels to Wisconsin-Whitewater.
