Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Hoops Pulls Away from Brandeis, 78-65

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Nate Amado (Hanson, Mass.) led all scorers with 26 points and sophomore Timmy O'Toole (Milton, Mass.) posted a double-double with a career-high 17 points and a season-high 15 rebounds to help Babson College defeat visiting Brandeis University, 78-65, in non-conference men's basketball action on Wednesday afternoon inside Staake Gymnasium.

Babson improves to 3-2 on the year with its second consecutive victory, while Brandeis drops to 1-2 with its second straight loss.

Amado knocked down four three-pointers and also grabbed 10 boards to record his first double-double of the season, while graduate student Steph Baxter (Worcester, Mass.) added 19 points for the Beavers. O'Toole pulled down eight of Babson's 15 offensive rebounds and also led all players with four steals in the win.

Sophomore Quron Zene (Windsor, Conn.) and junior Toby Harris (Durham, N.C.) both scored 13 points and sophomore Ethan Edwards (Brooklyn, N.Y.) chipped in with nine points to pace the Judges.

Brandeis responded to an early six-point deficit with a 20-7 run that included seven points from Zene and back-to-back three-pointers by Harris and senior Aedan Using (Old Lyme, Conn.) to take its largest lead of the game at 20-13 nearly seven minutes into the contest. The Green and White answered back with eight straight points to regain a 21-20 edge on a triple by Amado and then used a 14-1 spurt that included 10 points by Baxter and Amado to stretch its advantage to 37-27 with 3:57 remaining in the opening half.

Down 47-36 at the break, the Judges used back-to-back hoops by Harris and a three-pointer by Zene to get within 50-43 less than three minutes into the second half. O'Toole converted a putback and then banked in a triple from the left wing to extend the Beavers' lead back to 55-43 at the 12:43 mark, and the hosts put the game away with an 18-5 burst.

Amado had nine points during the decisive run as Babson scored on nine of its 11 possessions over a stretch of five-plus minutes to grab its largest advantage of the game at 73-50 on a layup by O'Toole with 5:33 to play.

The Beavers shot 41.8 percent from the floor and outscored Brandeis 38-18 in the paint while also turning 14 turnovers by the Judges into 15 points. The Green and White also finished with a 47-35 edge on the glass and scored 16 points off of 15 offensive rebounds.

Brandeis shot just 34.5 percent from the floor and went 1-of-8 from beyond the arc in the second half after shooting 50 percent from distance over the opening 20 minutes.

Both teams return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. as Babson travels to Bates, while the Judges visit Rhode Island College.
