No. 13/15 Women's Basketball Rolls Past Thomas in Colby Tip-Off Tournament, 88-24

WATERVILLE, Maine—Senior Katelyn Mollica (Foxborough, Mass.) scored a season-high 17 points and classmate Abby Miller (Millis, Mass.) added a career-high 16 points as No. 13 D3hoops.com/No. 15 WBCA Babson College cruised past Thomas College, 88-24, to open the Colby College Tip-Off Tournament on Saturday afternoon. 

With its second straight win, Babson is now 2-1 on the year. Thomas has dropped two of its last three games to fall to 2-2 overall. 

Mollica knocked down five three-pointers, all in the first half, and finished 6-of-9 from the floor, while Miller went 7-of-11 shooting and dished out a career-high five assists to lead the Beavers. Junior Emily Flynn (Hanover, Mass.) added 10 points off the bench and senior Kelly Walsh (Goffstown, N.H.) and sophomore Chloe Perreault (Danbury, Conn.) tied for game-high honors with five assists apiece. 

First-year Cam Lewis (Fall River, Mass.) scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Terriers. 

Miller and Mollica opened the game with back-to-back three-pointers and combined for 18 points in the opening quarter as the Green and White raced out to a 26-6 lead. Senior Madison Odam (San Jose, Calif.) opened the second with three straight points and followed another triple by Mollica with one of her own to stretch the margin to 34-11 with 7:42 to go until halftime. 

A three-pointer by sophomore Allessia Carlo (Carmel, N.Y.) made it 37-11, Flynn canned a jumper two minutes later and Mollica drained two more trifectas over the final 3:32 of the stanza to send the Beavers to the locker room with a 47-13 advantage. 

Babson turned the ball over on its first two possessions of the third quarter but then scored on five straight possessions, which included a pair of buckets by junior Camilla Silk (Medfield, Mass.), to stretch its lead to 60-16. Miller and senior Rachel McMenemy (Northborough, Mass.) combined for eight points and first-year Samantha Reale (North Attleboro, Mass.) drained a three-pointer with 1:18 to go in the frame to make it 69-16. 

The Beavers shot 49.3 percent and finished with a 45-25 edge on the glass in addition to scoring 29 points off of 27 Thomas turnovers. 

Babson will face Colby in the tournament championship game at 3 p.m. on Saturday, while Thomas faces New England College in the consolation game at 1 p.m. 

GAME NOTES
•    The Beavers are now 3-0 all-time against Thomas and Saturday's contest was the first between the teams since 1989.
•    Babson finished with a season-high 26 assists on 36 made field goals and have now dished out 49 assists over the last two games. 
•    The Green and White is 21-3 since the start of last season when shooting at least 40 percent from the floor. 
•    Babson has won 40 of its last 41 games over the last three-plus seasons when scoring at least 70 points.
